Job Description: Lead Organizer for the IBEW Local 37

Location: New Brunswick provincial with office in Fredericton, NB

Reports to: Business Manager David Brown, IBEW Local 37

Compensation: Competitive salary and benefit package

Job Details

IBEW Local 37 has an immediate need for a high-energy professional to oversee the implementation of effective campaigns that will increase our membership by organizing workers in the outside line construction, telecommunications, and utility industries in New Brunswick.

Working with the IBEW Local 37 staff, along with other IBEW organizers and representatives, the organizer will identify targets, build, and execute strategic organizing plans.

Duties include, but not limit to:

- Identifying contacts to prioritize relationship building.

- Leadership development.

- Developing and maintain effective communication networks and worksites.

- Liaising with IBEW regional organizing coordinators.

- Attending and running meetings.

- Keep organizing data current, develop efficient organizing systems, and the tools required.

Required candidate abilities/skills

- Ability to plan and run comprehensive organizing campaigns.

- Establish and maintain a good rapport with prospective members.

- Credibility with a diverse demographic.

- Familiarity with a unionized environment.

- Industry Knowledge.

- Knowledge of the bottom up or top-down organizing strategies.

- Coordinating one on one meetings with prospective members (i.e., home visits).

- Experience in team building.

- Effective written and verbal communication skills.

- Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Word, and Excel).

- Ability to work Independently, prioritize work, and perform multiple tasks.

- General knowledge of the Canadian Labour movement.

- Bilingualism would be an asset.

- Experience as a union member/leader would be an asset.

- Travel is a requirement for this position, a vehicle, and vehicle insurance.

- Mileage will be reimbursed as per Local 37 Bylaws and Polices.

Other requirements

- Must always represent the IBEW professionally and positive.

- Must be flexible and available to work irregular hours and/or weekends.
