Role Summary

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Services & Professional Practice, the IPACC is a skilled clinical, evidenced based, professional leader responsible for the development and implementation of strategies, work processes, policies and procedures and other supports to ensure Seaview Manor achieves an exemplary infection prevention and control program.

Using a Resident Centred model of care delivered via an Interprofessional practice model, the IPACC assumes the primary lead for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating infection control practices across the entire organization. The IPACC will co-lead with IPACC colleague to review all IPAC policies and procedures to ensure they reflect best practices. The IPACC has the primary responsibility to be familiar with and communicate IPAC practice guidelines and industry practice changes with staff at all levels within the organization. The IPACC has the key liaison role with Nova Scotia Health (NSH) infection control practitioners and other experts in public health. Additionally, the IPACC must integrate their knowledge of the principles of infection prevention/control and appropriately interpret information relative to the needs of our practice setting. The IPACC will have the primary responsibility to collect, analyze and report on infection prevention/control data to Staff, Management, and the Continuous Quality Improvement Committee.

Qualifications

  • B.ScN Degree/Diploma in Nursing required
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent, related clinical and operational management experience in a health care environment, preferably in a long-term care setting.
  • Current CRNNS registration
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications

  • Demonstrates leadership management skills and the desire and ability to teach others
  • Exhibits excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Continuously supports infection prevention/control processes, education and research
  • Contributes ideas/suggestions for improving infection prevention and control processes
  • Participates in data collection, analysis and reporting on key IPAC indicators
  • In collaboration with the Clinical Team and external IPAC NSH practitioners, plans, implements and evaluates the infection prevention/control programs to achieve maximum effectiveness, efficiency and compliance with national standards and guidelines
  • Acts as resource for infection prevention/control to other staff members including contributions to the revisions and updates of infection prevention/control/ policies and procedures
  • Collaborates with the Management Team to ensure that all staff are made aware of infection prevention/control accreditation standards and that all departments are fully engaged in the learning process and provides in the moment coaching and just in time education.
  • Counsels and guides staff who are non-compliant with IPAC policy and procedure, Standards, Guidelines and develops learning plans and/or performance improvement plans in collaboration with the appropriate Manager/ Director.
  • Participates in staff/departmental meetings and provides input to current issues related to infection prevention/control
  • Assists in orienting new staff to infection prevention/control processes at Seaview Manor
  • Maintains and enhances professional/competency skills for self and others
