Building Maintenance Technician

St. John's International Airport (SJIAA) is a not-for-profit, non-share capital corporation with a mandate to operate a safe and efficient air transportation facility at Newfoundland and Labrador's premier transportation gateway. Key Duties

SJIAA is currently looking for a Building Maintenance Techician to join the Building Maintenance team. Reporting to the Supervisor, Building Maintenance this position performs a wide variety of duties to safely maintain, repair and operate our facilities and infrastructure across the airport site. Application of technical knowledge to problem solving and continuous improvement of assets and systems is valued. This position works collaboratively with other SJIAA departments, airport tenants, external authorities.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Inspection, maintain and repair steam and heating systems, fuel systems and facility buildings;
  • Maintenance and operate the heating and steam humidification systems in the registered plant under direction of the Plant's Chief Engineer
  • Inspection, maintain and repair all plumbing systems, underground sewerage and water infrastructure, and HVAC systems including Automation Control System;
  • Inspect, maintain and repair baggage handling systems, passenger loading bridges, building architectural components, overhead doors and systems, and fire systems;
  • Participate in continuous improvement project implementation
  • Work with other SJIAA departments, airport tenants, external authorities and public to understand their needs and determine appropriate responses;
  • Participate in all required training for the position, ensuring necessary certifications are maintained;
  • Other duties as required.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Graduation Diploma
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Red Seal
  • Class III Power Engineering Certificate
  • Minimum of 3 years field experience
  • Valid Class V driver's license
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Effective oral communications skills and ability to work collaboratively
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and regulations
  • Physical ability to perform the work required
  • Must be available for standby and overtime, as required.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Airside Vehicle Operators Permit (AVOP).
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC)

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in weekly on-call rotation for after-hours, be available for overtime work, and perform duties of the Supervisor during their absence as required.
