JOB SUMMARY

Kwilmu’kw Maw-klusuaqn Negotiation Office (KMK) supports the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs (Assembly) in negotiation and consultation processes and engages Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw communities on the best ways to implement our collective Aboriginal and Treaty Rights.

We are seeking a dedicated Economic Analyst to join our team, reporting directly to the Executive Director. This new role will be pivotal in conducting high-level research and analysis on a variety of topics that will positively impact the Mi’kmaq of Nova Scotia by identifying opportunities and providing insight that contribute to ongoing and sustainable economic progress.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Conduct and coordinate economic research and analysis addressing key issues within Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq communities.
  • Perform economic impact analyses on various development opportunities and initiatives.
  • Identify and leverage benefits for Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq communities.
  • Develop and provide essential information for KMK projects, identifying trends, risks, and research opportunities.
  • Contribute to organizational projects, initiatives, and events.
  • Offer critical insights into potential shifts in the Mi’kmaq economy due to socio-economic policy decisions.
  • Advise on national, regional, and provincial economies and their interplay with the Mi’kmaq economy.
  • Interpret and forecast economic trends.
  • Prepare and present materials such as reports, briefing notes, memoranda, infographics, action plans, etc.
  • Create financial and econometric models.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, or a related field; a graduate degree is preferred.
  • 3 – 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with economic analysis, research, and econometric modeling.
  • Proficiency in collecting, quantifying, and modeling key economic data.
  • Capability to design qualitative economic research and analysis.
  • Prior experience working with Mi’kmaw and/or Indigenous communities and organizations is an asset.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must hold and maintain a valid NS driver’s license. Travel throughout Nova Scotia may be required.
