The Opportunity

Vale continues to invest in innovation and technology to transform its business by improving safety and productivity and strengthen its reputation in mining leadership. One of Vale's boldest investments and commitments to innovation is the new Integrated Remote Operations Centre located at its North Atlantic Operations Centre in Sudbury, Ontario.

Through new digital connectivity, this state-of-the-art centralized control centre – better known as iROC – will connect leaders and frontline workers across all seven of Vale's Canadian mines. Not only will iROC strengthen communications across its mining operations, it will also be a cornerstone in real-time data collection and analytics to support robust decision making in planning and execution. This 24/7 continuous data feed will drive agile action plans in real-time, improving shift productivity and adherence to plans. iROC will also improve safety by reducing emergency response time through enhanced location awareness and by facilitating the active monitoring of hazards such as seismicity

We are currently seeking an iROC Data & Reporting Specialist to join our iRoc – All Mines Services Team in Sudbury, Ontario. This is a Permanent Position

As an iROC Data & Reporting Specialist, you will be accountable to provide guidance and support to the Integrated Remote Operations Center (iROC) in design, development, and implementation of business process, data management tools and systems. You will analyze data for decision making, scheduling and improvement activities including demand planning and scheduling, performance measurement, key performance indicators (KPIs) as well as develop guideline documents that standardize system inputs to enable the creation of reliable and accurate business reports.

Additionally, in this position, you will:

  • Follow Vale's Safety Policies, Programs and Legislative Standards
  • Ensure site(s) are adhering to Vale's VPS business process standards, procedures and using system applications and tools in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Provide training, coaching and issue resolution support to Contractor Performance Management Team, Contract Managers, Contract Inspectors, Superintendents, Planners, Releasers as required.
  • Ensure planning, scheduling and execution processes are integrated and automated such that all needed information to support contractor management work routines is readily available resulting in the safe, productive and cost-effective execution of contracts within Vale's North Atlantic Operations.
  • Provide guidance and assist area management in the development, implementation, and optimization of integrated planning and routine management business processes, tools, and systems.
  • Develop reports and metrics
  • Provide guidance and support to one the use of existing or new data and systems to improve data integrity and reporting while reducing the requirement for manual routines and intervention.
  • Lead the implementation and improvement of business processes, data, and systems (with input from iROC Operational Leads and Mine Leadership)

About You

  • You possess a bachelor's degree (Engineering, Mathematics and/or Data Sciences)
  • Have a minimum 5 years experience with an ability to demonstrate both analytical and technical skills
  • You have strong organization and time management skills
  • Knowledge in reporting or dashboard solutions with BI tools (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau or Spotifire);
  • Self-motivated and autonomous with excellent analytical skills (quick comprehension, abstract thinking, recognize data relationships and patterns)
  • You take initiative and are self-directed to accomplish goals with minimum supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Solid financial knowledge to make business cases and decisions.
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel analytical tools (e.g., charting, pivot tables, etc.)
  • Understands the theory of constraints and its application in the management of an integrated system
  • Experience in underground mining process will be considered a highly regarded asset.
