ABOUT THE ROLE

The Privacy & Data Protection Officer serves as a champion of privacy and data protection for the Town of Bridgewater and promotes an environment that is consistent with the organization’s data governance and data management policies and the organization’s privacy program.

The Privacy & Data Protection Officer is an essential member of the Town’s leadership, ensuring that the Town fulfills its corporate responsibilities and compliance functions. The Privacy & Data Protection Officer will work with all members of the Town’s corporate and operations departments to effectively and efficiently ensure organization-wide compliance with its privacy-related responsibilities.

ABOUT YOU

As an experienced privacy professional, you have both the knowledge and the hands-on experience to support an organization to develop and operationalize its privacy program. You have good working knowledge of applicable legislation within the public sector coupled with the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders in meeting organisational privacy requirements. You have strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex, legal, and technical information to a wide variety of audiences as well as investigative and technical research skills.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

· Successful completion of a degree in Records and Information Management, Business Law, Public Administration, or a related discipline (or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent).

Certification:

· Access and Privacy Professional Certification is an asset.

Experience:

· 4-5 years of directly related experience working with the Nova Scotia Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPOP), Municipal Government Act, Part XX, or other related access and privacy legislation, including experience in policy/procedure development and analysis.

· Experience in conducting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and handling Privacy Breaches.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

· This position operates out of the Town Hall main office.

· Regular hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours per week).

· Salary: $ 65,962 - 84,477 (Group 4)
