Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Grounds Person is responsible for providing grounds care, maintenance, and housekeeping services for all exterior areas of NSPHA properties that are not the responsibility of individual tenants. Completion of work assignments given must be kept within the standards and safe practices adopted by NSPHA.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that exteriors and public entrances are safe and clean and remove any dirt or debris from entrances, exits, walkways and grounds within a 20-foot distance from all points around the perimeter of the exterior of the building.
  • Clean up any debris or garbage, refuse or trash from the grounds and surrounding areas and clean storm sewers and catch pits.
  • Paint of parking lots, grounds sheds, railings, foundations, basements, fences.
  • Operate motorized equipment such as small tractors, lawn mowers, cement mixers, salt spreaders, etc.
  • Prepare soil, plants flowerbeds, trees, bushes etc., prune trees and shrubs, perform grass cutting, hedge trimming.
  • Complete work orders and material requisitions as required.
  • Report maintenance requirements and any unusual events to the supervisor or designate.
  • Report unsafe conditions or practices and take corrective measures if possible.
  • Actively participate in NSPHA safety programs and group safety discussions.
  • Other assigned duties.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in Maintenance program or a related program that requires to complete a work term as part of the program.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Compensation

Salary Range: $17.86 - $19.70 (Hourly)
Work Week: 35 hours
