Under the management of the Controller, this position will be responsible for assisting in all accounting functions supporting the Bertossi Group (Il Mercato Trattoria, The Bicycle Thief, La Frasca Cibi & Vini, Ristorante a Mano, and Pane e Circo). The successful candidate will be organized and excel in time management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Process payroll weekly - communicate with managers and HR as needed to complete timesheet verification prior to payroll processing
• Track and process all necessary payroll adjustments each pay period, including employee benefits & uniform deductions, vacation accruals, and the posting payroll journal entries
• Provide a high level of service to all employees & managers by assisting with inquiries and issues related to payroll in a timely manner
• Ensure payroll is processed in accordance with Nova Scotia labour standards & evolving tax legislation
• Responsible for issuing accurate Records of Employment to Service Canada
• Prepare payroll reports for year-end processing, including T4s
• Prepare daily and weekly labour reporting for each of our restaurants / shops, compared against food and beverage sales
• Administer Blue Cross Health Benefits Program, including employee set up, monthly accounting reconciliation
• Assist in WCB & OHS Administration as required
• Assist the accounting team with additional duties as required

Qualifications:

• A minimum of five years in payroll experience, additional accounting experience considered an asset
• A diploma or university degree in a related field
• A working knowledge of restaurant point of sale systems would be considered an asset
• Experience working in the hospitality industry considered an asset
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Payworks considered an asset
