Meridia Recruitment Solutions has partnered with our client, FBM, one of Atlantic Canada’s most award-winning architecture, interior design and planning firms to recruit an Intermediate Technologist to work a full-time in-office or hybrid schedule out of their brand-new office in Halifax, NS, one of the first significant multi-storey mass timber structures in Atlantic Canada.

A studio of collaborating architects, interior designers, planners, and various subject matter experts, FBM is responsible for the design of a wide range of built environments. Specialty areas of practice—research, accessibility, envelope, and sustainable design—complement their core offerings and further their understanding of holistic building science and user experience. For more than 100 years, FBM has been creating spaces that enhance the quality of life within them and the communities they serve. They call this people-driven design.

Role Description:

Reporting to the Technical Lead, you will play a crucial role in developing design and construction documents as well as BIM coordination for a variety of exciting and complex projects. You will contribute to the Contract Administration phase of these projects by completing site visits, preparing reports, reviewing shop drawings, and responding to RFI’s. Lastly, you will collaborate with the project team, ensure the delivery of project documentation requirements, coordinate architectural documents with other key design disciplines, and be mentored by supportive and senior staff members.

By joining the FBM team you will be joining a firm that has developed an excellent reputation from their high-profile work and extensive portfolio that comprises a wide range of projects such as the Halifax Public Library, Richmond Yards, and the new Bayers Lake Community Outpatient Centre. You’ll be part of a dedicated team of professionals who are proud of the communities they work with and value a culture of skill diversification and development, empowering employees—on their terms—through mentorship, learning, and opportunities for internal mobility. FBM prioritizes strong working relationships and a sense of belonging through engaging social events, employee surveys, and responsiveness. It is this commitment to providing growth and development opportunities that ensures an exceptional work experience that has been recognized for the fourth consecutive year by Canada’s Top 100 Employers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating complex BIM projects within a Revit-based environment.
  • Generating construction drawings and detailed illustrations, including drawings for tender and construction documentation.
  • Offering technical support in areas such as building science and construction methodologies, contributing to the creation of solutions for complex design challenges.
  • Contributing to the contract administration project phases, which includes generating site reports and reviewing shop drawings and sketches to support construction-related questions.
  • Ensuring that designs and deliverables adhere to technical guidelines, codes, and regulatory requirements.

Your Qualifications:

As the ideal candidate, you are natural with technology, passionate about producing accurate and clean drawings, and have a good knowledge of building envelopes and building construction techniques. You are the type of person who enjoys collaborating with others on project challenges, is self-motivated, and likes to figure out how to “make it work”. Above all, your attention to detail and strong work ethic have allowed you to enjoy success while participating in numerous projects.

Qualifications include:

  • 3+ years of experience creating construction drawings using Revit.
  • A post-secondary diploma in architectural drafting or architectural engineering technician, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Understanding of construction-related issues, including envelope detailing.
  • Familiarity with national and provincial building codes is a bonus.
