We operate a fleet of modern Sikorsky S92 helicopters in both offshore passenger transportation and Search and Rescue (SAR) roles. We operate out of a state-of-the-art heliport, hangar, and dedicated SAR facility, which has a proven 24/7/365 response posture of being airborne within 20 minutes. The world class training our flight crew receives is completed in a Level D flight simulator provided by CAE which is in St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador. Cougar Helicopters is a recognized and respected leader among helicopter operators throughout the industry and always remains proactive in the advancement of flight safety.

Position Overview:

In this role, you will have the opportunity to oversee and manage all aviation safety-related and quality assurance activities, ensuring strict compliance with regulatory requirements while providing leadership and guidance to a team of professionals and serving as the primary advisor to senior management on safety and quality matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing senior-level oversight and management of aviation safety and quality activities, including the maintenance of our Aviation Safety Management System, Health, Safety, and Environment Management Program, and Quality Management System.
  • Directly supervising a team of safety, training, and quality professionals.
  • Acting as the primary advisor to senior management on safety and quality matters, offering expert guidance and support across all CHI operations.
  • Collaborating closely with safety and quality action group members to identify and mitigate risks effectively, developing cost-effective management plans to address potential issues.
  • Developing, implementing, and executing the annual Safety Plan, coordinating customer aviation safety reviews, and ensuring timely follow-up on audit findings.
  • Conducting annual safety surveys to identify deficiencies and propose corrective actions, championing the company's Emergency Response Plan and Procedures.
  • Serving as the Chair of the CHI Occurrence Review Board (ORB) and weekly Safety and Quality meetings, providing regular updates on safety and quality issues at Senior Management Team (SMT) meetings.
  • Being an active industry participant and representing CHI as required at industry safety events, networking with peers, and staying up to date on the latest developments in aviation safety and quality.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of diverse experience directly related to the functioning of a fully integrated quality and safety department within a medium-sized federally regulated organization, preferably within the aviation industry.
  • Documented successful completion of HSE and/or safety management training programs, including Incident Investigation Process and Risk Management. Familiarity with and qualification in programs such as HFACS and BARS will be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with Canada Labour Code Part II (and regulations), CARS, Transport Canada regulations, IOGP standards, and a good knowledge of ICAO Annexes (standards & recommended practices).
  • Very strong oral (public speaking) and written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
