Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Employee Engagement & Culture, we are seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking leader for the role of Manager, Employee Relations & Learning. In this exciting new position, you understand that labour markets and practices are evolving rapidly. You are driven to stay ahead of the curve by crafting progressive solutions to today and tomorrow's challenges. Picture yourself at the helm, leading the charge in developing a college-wide Employee Relations and Learning strategy. Here, you will have the freedom to innovate, think ahead, and revolutionize how NBCC nurtures its employee experience!

In this pivotal role, you will be accountable for-and thrilled about-all aspects of Employee Relations and Learning. Specifically:

  • Strategic Collaboration: Participating in strategic planning sessions to ensure a unified approach to employee relations and learning initiatives.
  • Business Partnership Model: You believe in the business partner model and implement the employee relations strategy with a focus on strong business partnerships.
  • Engagement: Take a leading role in change management efforts, guiding employees through organizational shifts to achieve strategic goals.
  • Performance Management: Implement a performance management framework aligning individual and team goals with the organization's objectives.
  • Assessments & Investigations: Implement resolutions on workplace issues, minimizing risk to the organization and resolving disputes proactively.
  • DEIB: Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, ensuring equal opportunities and fair treatment for all employees.
  • Wellbeing: Support the implementation of strategies prioritizing the wellbeing of all employees.
  • Training & Development: Execute a training and development strategy aligned with organizational needs, values, and goals.
  • Leadership: Lead with courage and conviction, inspiring your team to reach new heights of excellence.
Qualifications

To be successful in the role of Manager, Employee Relations & Learning you will already have a toolkit that includes:

Experience

  • Leadership Catalyst: Demonstrated experience leading teams with an ability to elevate leadership awareness, foster engagement, and foster team alignment.
  • HR Partnership Expertise: Demonstrated success in developing true business partner relationships with leaders at various levels.
  • Union Experience: Proven track record in union environments, including involvement in labour management meetings, negotiations, and arbitrations.
  • HR Jack-of-All-Trades: Proficiency in supporting employees and managers across a spectrum of HR functions, from Employee Engagement to Performance Management and beyond.
  • Team Collaboration: Skill in working harmoniously as part of the People and Culture Team, rallying colleagues toward common goals.
  • Investigation Mastery: Experience leading internal investigations and assessments with finesse.
  • Confidentiality Champion: Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Conflict Resolution Magic: Expertise in navigating and resolving conflicts effectively.
  • Relationship Builder: Proven knack for cultivating positive partnerships at every level.

Education

  • Post-Secondary Education in Business, Human Resources, Sociology, Learning and Training
  • CPHR Designation
