The Role
We are seeking a highly attentive professional who is detail oriented and is a master in managing concurrent priorities to join our Creditor Practice Team. Our ideal candidate has excellent interpersonal skills, is self-motivated, and values a rewarding career contributing to the success of one of the firm's largest practice areas.

Core Duties and Responsibilities
As a Legal Assistant in our Creditor Practice Team, you can find professional growth through ownership of your own workload; you make decisions, prioritize your work, and plan your day in a way that works for you. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Daily updating of file statuses via client systems (online highways) and internal document management system;
- Communicating regularly with lawyers, clients, sub-contractors, and defendants;
- Closely managing various deadlines based on applicable provincial legislation;
- Preparing detailed calculations (such as interest rates, per diems, etc.) with respect to assigned accounts;
- Ensuring the accuracy and completeness of client/file information within internal document management system, and;
- A part of this role brings the opportunity to make a big difference in the life of a defendant or borrower by helping them navigate a difficult time with empathy, patience, and high-quality client service.
Qualifications and Skills
To be successful, you possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Graduate of a Paralegal diploma program or equivalent combination of training and experience;
- Experience with mortgage enforcement and/or debt recovery not required, but considered an asset;
- Exceptional proofreading skills with ability to notice and fix grammatical, typographical, spelling, diction, and formatting errors;
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and follow instructions with minimal supervision;
- Superior communication skills and the ability to deal directly with clients and defendants;
- Strong ability to contribute to a positive and collaborative work culture;
- Proven ability to manage time and demonstrated ability to handle multiple changing priorities in a deadline driven work environment;
- Aptitude for critical thinking, problem solving, and making sound judgement calls; and,
- Adept at using technology such as Outlook and the full Microsoft Office suite, and a talent for learning new computer programs quickly.
