The opportunity

We're seeking a Manager of Finance and Administration to lead the oversight of DASC's finances, benefits programs, and payroll. As a member of the senior leadership team, reporting to our Executive Director, they will provide leadership in financial controls and reporting, operational efficiency, and provide support with Human Resources and Administration services.

The position is based in our Dorey Avenue location in Burnside Industrial Park in Dartmouth.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Responsibility and oversight for all payroll functions
  • Oversight and use of all accounting systems and software
  • Ensuring all financial data with respect to DASC is accurate and produced in a timely fashion
  • Preparation of monthly financial statements for the Executive Director and Board of Directors
  • Regular communication with the Board Treasurer regarding DASC financial matters
  • Processing of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
  • Development of annual operating and capital budgets with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors
  • Serve as DASC's lead for annual audit preparation and Auditor engagement
  • Oversight and administration of the petty cash system
  • Supporting the management team, including Program Supervisors, with timely responses to finance or budget-related questions
  • Oversight and administration of our employee benefits and pension programs
  • Generation of T4s, Workers Compensation claims, and other employee-related supports
  • Ensuring employees are up-to-date with key certification and training requirements such as CPR and First Aid
  • Support the orientation and onboarding of new employees

Skills, experience, and qualifications we're seeking

  • Post-secondary education with an accounting major or professional designation, and/or;
  • Demonstrated experience in accounting and financial management functions in the not- for-profit sector
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with multiple constituencies such as colleagues, program participants, management team members, and Board Directors
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and the full Microsoft Office suite; experience with SAGE accounting software
  • Experience working with persons with disabilities would be considered an asset
  • Valid driver's license, and a reliable vehicle necessary for work related duties
  • Experience with finance-related tasks such as petty cash administration, record-keeping, management of databases
  • Current and Valid Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Persons Check

The hours of work are 8AM - 4PM, Monday to Friday, although there may be occasions and events when evening or weekend work will be required.
