Full-Time Salaried Family Physician - Care of the Elderly

Western Health invites expressions of interest for one full-time equivalent salaried Family Physician - Care of the Elderly location to be determined.

The regional referral centre for Western Health is Western Memorial Regional Hospital, a 171-bed facility that provides services to a population base of approximately 78,000 people. We are affiliated with Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador Faculty of Medicine and we encourage and support academic interests.

In keeping with the organizations' vision of "Healthy People - Healthy Communities", Western Zone is pleased to support its Older Adult Care program in achieving its goals of providing exceptional and high-quality care to patients in the Western Zone. Care of the Elderly trained Family Physicians and Royal College trained Geriatricians work together in this division to provide comprehensive geriatric assessment to older adults in acute care, outpatient clinic, assisted living and long-term care facilities and in their own homes. This is primarily a consultative service where management suggestions and support are provided to the patient's primary care team, where available. Interdisciplinary collaboration occurs with other programs and services including, but not limited to, Rehabilitation, Community Supports, Primary Care, Acute Care and Emergency/Ambulatory Care.

Our ideal candidate will have a strong patient focus and excellent communication skills with a keen interest in practicing in a collaborative team approach. On-call service will be to the Long Term Care facilities. The successful Physician will provide care using the EMR platform.

To be considered, candidates must hold a medical degree and must be eligible for licensure to practice Family Medicine by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador. Completion of an Enhanced Skills Program in Care of the Elderly (COE), or equivalent experience, is required.

Salary and benefits for this position are to be paid in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in Newfoundland and Labrador. Starting salary will be based on years of clinical experience. Health and dental benefits are available in addition to vacation plus other various leaves including family and study leave.
