About the Role
Reporting to the Manager of Mental and Addictions, the primary purpose of this position is to provide mental health and addictions services to individuals and families in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL. Services include screening, assessment, intervention, community outreach, promotion and prevention. The successful candidate would be an active member of FACTT (Flexible Assertive Community Treatment Team).
Qualifications:
" Graduation from an approved/recognized school of nursing program is required;
" Current and continuing practicing licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) is required;
" 4-5 years of experience in mental health nursing;
" Able to demonstrate competency in leadership, interdisciplinary collaboration, communication, advocacy and strong decision-making skills;
" Advanced Studies in Mental Health Certification OR Canadian Nursing Association Psychiatric Nursing Certificate;
" Experience working in a community mental health setting focus on health promotion;
" Certification in BCLS, First Aid and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training
" Valid drivers license and use of private vehicle;
" The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check;
Duties: (Included but not limited to)
" Responsible for providing advanced consulting expertise and education of professional standards of psychiatric nursing care for patients, groups, families and communities.
" Performs research and advanced practice to develop, implement, and evaluate practices, processes and treatment plans for effective, safe and therapeutic care of patients with mental illnesses;
" Provides consultation to other healthcare professionals (as part of an interdisciplinary team) with respect to mental health practices and issues;
" Provides leadership and clinical expertise in the care of people living with mental illness and their families.
" Primarily responsible to provide program leadership through the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of individual care plans for patients referred following a first episode of psychosis. This includes coordination of care for patients and family members involved in the program as well as long term follow-up and provision of patient/family education.
" Liaises with mental health and addictions programs and participates in data collection, analysis, research, and program evaluation.
" Assesses, develops, and implements education programs regarding mental health issues for health professionals to resolve conflicts and concerns which affect patient care;
" Acts as a member of the FACT Teams with other inter-disciplinary mental health professionals in order to provide quality mental health services and supports to patients;
" Provides assessment, treatment, follow up and support of individuals with mental health and addictions needs throughout various mental health and addictions programs and services, including the Flexible Assertive Community Treatment Team and the new Mental Health Unit.
" Use of a private vehicle is a condition of employment, travel throughout the region may be required.
" Other related duties as required, may be required to work alone.
Salary:
" NS - 34 of the RNUNL Salary Scales, $47.27 - $58.62 per hour plus the applicable Labrador Allowance.
Hours of Work:
" 75 hours Bi-weekly; Monday to Friday.
