DIALYSIS EDUCATION PROGRAM
Location: Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL

The Labrador-Grenfell Mentorship Program is designed to prepare the novice registered nurse or new nurse graduate to work in a specialty area. The mentorship program is inclusive of: education, orientation, preceptorship, and transition to practice, education and skills. Upon successful completion of the program the Registered Nurse (RN) will qualify to work in the Dialysis Unit. This position offers an excellent opportunity to learn advanced nursing knowledge, skills, and decision-making. The primary purpose of this position is to work as an active member of the nursing team to provide a high standard of care to patients of the Labrador Health Centre. The RN is responsible for maintaining professional and organizational standards and practice in accordance with the LG Model of Nursing Clinical Practice and reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager. A return in service agreement may be required.

Qualifications:

" Graduation from an approved/recognized school of nursing program is required;
" Current and continuing practicing licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) is required;
" One year current Acute Care nursing experience preferred;
" Hemodialysis Education Program or equivalent education or willingness to obtain (within timeframe designated by the employer);
" Breastfeeding education/education;
" Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
" Current certification in Basic Life Support (CPR);
" The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct and vulnerable sector check;

Duties: (Included but not limited to)

" Organizes, plans, implements, and evaluates the plan of care for assigned clients;
" Maintains competency in technological and clinical skills to provide hemodialysis in a satellite unit;
" Maintains equipment and supplies;
" Documents as per professional and organizational standards;
" Participates in the orientation, mentorship and preceptoring of staff;
" Represents nursing on various committees as required;
" Participates in quality assurance initiatives as requested/required;
" Acts as a liaison between the client and other healthcare providers;
" May be required to provide relief at other regional satellite units;
" Other related duties as required.

Salary:

" NS-28 of the RNUNL Salary Scales, $37.86 to $47.16 per hour while in the program; upon successful completion of the program NS - 29 of the RNUNL Salary Scales, $38.93 - $48.14 per hour plus the applicable Labrador Allowance.

Hours of Work:

" Variable shifts; variable shifts.

Enhanced Incentive:
" Successful applicants who are currently completing the 3rd or 4th year of an approved nursing program are eligible to receive an enhanced incentive of both a bursary and a signing bonus. A return in service agreement will be required.
