About Our Opportunity
Reporting to the Supervisor, Client Services, the Assistant Client Services Coordinator is responsible for recommending the initial and on-going eligibility and placement of individuals who apply for subsidized housing. This is accomplished by assessing applicants in accordance with the Provincial Housing Operations Manual. The incumbent is directly accountable for ensuring that applicants are assessed and selected on a fair, non-judgmental basis, and that decision-making and documentation follows established policies.
This position will also assist the Supervisor, Client Services, with a variety of duties including inspections, home visits, fire safety and emergency measures planning.
- Ensure all applicants meet the established eligibility criteria set by the Public Housing Operations Manual, assess applications for eligibility and placement.
- Process applications/transfers, including data entry, reviewing, and updating files, allocating units and documentation.
- Carry out home visits for the purpose of completing applications, if required.
- Assist in the rental arrears collection process by working the with collections officer and property manager and to conduct home visits and make telephone calls as required.
- Assess priority access files immediately to determine high-risk living situations, liaise with community officials, Health/Fire and Police to obtain documents for Manager or designate.
- Conduct move in's and move out's, annual and other unit inspections of properties/buildings.
- As part of the inspection process, identify social and health related issues.
- Diploma in Business Administration or a two-year diploma in a related field, plus four years' related experience (i.e. extensive knowledge of health and social service systems, including long term care, procedures for placement in residential care, risk assessment, community development networking, understanding the challenges facing the NSPHA applicants and tenants, etc.)
- Competency in desktop software, including Microsoft Office.
- Accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail are required to coordinate the application process and respond to both the client and department needs.
- Ability to work in a diverse work environment, build appropriate rapport, build constructive and effective relationships, use diplomacy and tact to diffuse high tension situations comfortably.
- Possess a valid Nova Scotia driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes.
Assets:
- Working knowledge of Yardi Property Management software.
- Emergency First Aid and WHMIS certifications.
- Knowledge of housing and social service programs offered in the area.
- Knowledge of relevant acts and legislation that may apply to applicants and tenants, i.e., Residential Tenancies Act.
