Reporting to the Director, Marketing and Communications, the Lead, Strategic Communications provides communications leadership and guidance in support of NBCC's leadership team, college departments and faculty.
This role supervises the Coordinator of Student and Internal Communications which provides internal communications counsel to ensure quality communications which uphold NBCC's commitment to an engaged employee experience, as well ensures clarity, consistency and voice and oversees processes for communications to NBCC's student population.
- Develop and implement an annual NBCC communications and media strategy.
- Develop comprehensive communications plans for initiatives that support the overall strategic direction of the College.
- Assess communication programs, reporting findings and recommending improvements.
- Provide expertise, sharing knowledge regarding internal communications projects and coordinating media events with internal and external clients.
- Formulate appropriate strategies and messaging for internal and external audiences.
- Initiate, promote and advise on effective internal and external communications strategies and practices at all levels of the institution.
- Provide editorial direction, lead content development, and contribute writing for NBCC corporate reports, publications, stories and other initiatives as required.
- Research and develop news releases, articles, editorials and other written communications products.
- Develop internal communications capacity by providing training for NBCC leaders and identifying, maintaining and supporting a network of NBCC subject matter experts.
- Develop a proactive media outreach strategy to shape news coverage of the College and manages media relationships.
- Act as primary media contact for the College including as spokesperson when appropriate.
- Oversee the coordination of news conferences and other media events.
- Lead communication responses in the event of health or other emergencies or crises.
- Evaluate and report on NBCC media performance
- Identify emerging issues and provide guidance to Senior Executive Team and College Leadership Team on appropriate responses.
- Coordinate & prepare internal subject matter experts to speak on behalf of the College.
- A Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism or related work experience.
- A minumium of 5 years of recent and related experience.
- Strong leadership skills in leading both people and projects.
- A strategic thinker, this individual must be able to plan an overall communication strategy for the year which aligns with NBCC's strategic goals and objectives and aligned communications initiatives.
- A proactive approach with strong initiatives and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Innovation and commitment to continuous improvement is beneficial in evaluating and improving processes related to communications.
