Hospitalist/Family Care Team - Mental Health Focus
Two (2) Permanent Full-Time Positions
Location: Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador
Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services - Labrador-Grenfell Zone

The Labrador-Grenfell Zone is seeking Hospitalist physicians with a keen interest in mental health to provide acute care support to the 6- bed Regional Mental Health Unit (MHU) located in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. This is a unique opportunity for clinicians with a passion for mental health to help lead a brand-new mental health inpatient acute care unit prioritizing the delivery of mental health services in patient communities. The MHU has been designed in consultation with our Northern communities to reflect this population. Successful applicants will also join a very passionate generalist physician group who provide primary care, emergency medicine, long-term care, obstetrical care, and support to remote coastal community clinics in northern Labrador.

Qualifications:

" Applicants must be eligible for registration and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador; the criteria for licensure are outlined on the CPSNL website (www.cpsnl.ca).
" Applicants must satisfy credentialing requirements for NL Health Services.
" Previous work experience is an asset.
" A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance.

Description of Role:

The physician will work primarily at the Regional Mental Health Unit located in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. The physician will provide inpatient care to the patients admitted to the unit. Responsibilities will also include the provision of other primary care services alongside the Family Care Team in the same community. Call will be required including a focus on inpatient coverage in the MHU.

The Family Care Team (FCT) concept focuses on the creation of Community Teams comprised of physicians and other health care providers and the better integration of current primary care structures to ensure every person in the Happy Valley-Goose Bay region is connected to a system that provides a continuum of care in that community. The Family Care Teams aim is to route patients to the most appropriate provider for their individual care needs in their own community when possible.

The successful physician will manage a roster of patients through the FCT with the added benefit of the team for support in meeting patient care needs. Our ideal candidate will have a strong patient focus and excellent communication skills with a keen interest in practicing in a collaborative team approach. Hours of work may require flexibility to offer clinics during the daytime, after-hours and on weekends to meet patients' needs and team operations.

Activities:

" Provide acute care support to the regional 6-bed Mental Health unit in Happy Valley-Goose Bay as part of a collaborative team of physicians and other health professionals.
" Coordinate clinical services for patients to promote continuity of care.
" Provide quality clinical services to ensure that patient care is as safe, effective and efficient as possible.
" Support mental health services throughout the Labrador- Grenfell Zone
" Participate in the on-call system providing both in-person and virtual/telephone consultations for Labrador-Grenfell Health physicians and nurse practitioners.
" Work as part of team of physicians and other staff to provide the required services identified above.
" Demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person- and family-centred care.
" Demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risk and implementing improvements.
" Consult with clients, psychiatrists, physicians, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure appropriate plans of care are developed, implemented, and monitored.

Salary:
Remuneration will be in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in Newfoundland and Labrador
