Food Service Worker I & II
Temporary Call In
Location: Happy Valley-Goose Bay

Reporting to the Food Operations Manager or designate, the primary purpose of the Food Service Worker I & II is to organize and serve foods and perform tasks related to food service

Qualifications:
" Graduation from High School or equivalent;
" Knowledge of the chemicals, cleaning practices, equipment and supplies used in the process is an asset;
" Ability to work effectively with co-workers and other departments;
" Initiative to meet the written Goals & Objectives of the department using methods and products approved by the department under minimal supervision;
" Be in a state of health which allows effective performance of all duties within the job description;
" Willingness to complete the basic course of Food safety training"
" Ability to learn and apply food values and therapeutic diets;
" Ability to take directions and learn techniques involved in the safe use and care of food service equipment and kitchen utensils;
" Ability to learn and apply safe food handling procedures/practices;
" Ability to organize daily tasks while managing competing demands on time;
" Ability to maneuver heavy carts throughout the hospital/home;
" Experience in institutional receiving, preparation and service of food, and in safe and sanitary food handling, and janitorial work;
" Able to perform heavy manual tasks and store keeping activities;
" The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.

Duties (include but not limited to) (Food Service Worker I):
" Prepares food such as eggs, cereals, toast, sandwiches, salads and hot beverages;
" Cleans and prepares fruits/vegetables and portions desserts;
" Reviews patient diet list and prepares individual meal trays & snacks in keeping with the therapeutic diets ordered;
" Prepares and delivers special caterings within the facilities;
" Tallies patient meal count and diet orders and informs cooks of requirements;
" Updates and reviews patient "food preference cards";
" Delivers and picks up patient meal trays;
" Cleans tray preparation area, strips trays and cleans utensils/cutlery/dishes and related equipment;
" Operates cash register, prepares daily cash reports;
" Performs related work as required.

Duties (include but not limited to) (Food Service Worker II):
" Washing pots and pans and cleaning floors and cleaning walls;
" Cleaning major pieces of equipment, including refrigerators, grease screens and exhaust hoods;
" Unloading supplies from trucks and containers and storing them in designated storage areas;
" Carrying and dispensing food supplies from freezers and storeroom to kitchen and stocking food supplies in freezers and storerooms;
" Keeping accurate inventory records of day stores and freezers and refrigerators;
" Assist Cooks with food preparation and service;
" Short order cooking and basic cooking tasks;
" Keeping storage areas well organized;
" Other duties as required.

Salary:
" Food Service Worker I: CG-20 level at $19.26 - $20.89 per hour, in addition to the applicable Labrador Allowance.
" Food Service Worker II: CG-21 level at $19.60 - $21.36 per hour, in addition to the applicable Labrador Allowance.

Hours of Work:
" Variable shifts.
