Job Description

Therapeutic Recreation Volunteer - Caribou Memorial Veterans' Pavilion

Do you play cards or bingo? Are you good at trivia games? If so, volunteering with the Therapeutic Recreation program at the Veterans' Pavilion is the volunteer role for you!

The Veterans' Pavilion is an interdisciplinary resident care facility that stems from a partnership between Veterans Affairs Canada and Eastern Health. The facility is also part of the province's long-term care program. The building is located immediately next to the Dr. L.A. Miller Centre at 90 Forest Road in St. John's.

Therapeutic Recreation programs are designed to help people use and develop their leisure time in ways that also improve their health, independence and overall wellbeing. Volunteers assist Therapeutic Recreation staff in creating a stimulating environment for residents. In addition to card playing, bingo and trivia, volunteers contribute to the Therapeutic Recreation program through music, singing, arts and crafts, movie nights, baking, shopping, one-to-one visiting and assisting with community outings.

The minimum age for volunteering at the Veterans' Pavilion is 16 years old.

Please visit our volunteer website (volunteer.easternhealth.ca) for details about the processes involved with becoming an Eastern Health volunteer.
