Friendly Visiting volunteers provide social interaction and friendly support to residents. Duties of the friendly visiting volunteer may include: help with writing letters, playing board games, reading, etc. "Spending time with residents and keeping them company." Engaging in activities meaningful to both the resident and the volunteer.
"Assisting resident during Therapeutic Recreation programming. I.e. Assist with portering to and from programming, assist to enhance resident independence.
Friendly visitors are needed at the following Bonavista sites:
Bonavista Health Center (PCR)
Golden Heights Manor
Your time and commitment is valuable to us. Friendly visiting volunteers are often needed during the afternoon on weekdays and weekends. Any time you can contribute is appreciated. Discuss your own leisure interests and availability with the Volunteer Coordinator. Both your skills and interests can contribute to enhancing the life of a resident.
Friendly visiting volunteers should have effective and courteous verbal and non-verbal communication skills; be self-motivated and have a willingness and ability to work independently and as a team player; a willingness and ability to follow directions (i.e. from therapeutic Recreation staff, residents and their families); and be comfortable and confident interacting in a busy health care environment and in new social situations.
