The Halifax Regional Centre for Education is accepting applications for the Substitute List for the 2023-2024 school year. The daily rate of pay is $196.23.

New applicants must follow the steps below to be considered for substitute teaching:

1. Apply online to the competition number noted on the Substitute Teacher job posting. You are required to create and submit an online resume to apply. Please bring a printed copy of your resume or your application confirmation number.

2. Provide the following documentation to Human Resource Services, 33 Spectacle Lake Drive, Dartmouth, NS B3B 1X7 ( partial submissions will not be accepted ). Currently documents may also be mailed or emailed to [email protected].

  • Two written references from individuals who have observed the quality of your teaching (i.e.cooperation teacher, principal or university supervisor/advisor)
  • 6-digit professional number issued by NS Teacher Certification or copy of NS Teacher's Certificate
  • An original or copy of original course transcripts from your University or College in support of your teaching license and BEd ( downloaded copies from the internet will not be accepted )
  • Void Cheque or Direct Deposit Form from your Banking Institution
  • Current Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (completed within the last six months - obtained from your local Police or RCMP Detachment or at http://www.backcheck.net/halifax/ )
  • Child Abuse Registry Check Results completed within the last six months from the NS Department of Community Services ( https://www.novascotia.ca/coms/families/abuse/documents/CAR-4001_Request_for_Search_Form_A.pdf ).
  • New employee forms outlined on myHRCE (log into your myHRCE - www.myhrce.ca - account and choose the "New Employee Orientation" link in the dropdown menu to the right of the page, then click on the "First Things First" link).

Once all required documents have been submitted and reviewed, applicants will be added to the Halifax Regional Centre for Education Substitute Teacher List. An email will be sent with a login ID and PIN at which time substitutes are eligible to begin accepting assignments.

French candidates must also complete a successful interview with the Halifax Regional Centre for Education French Program Consultants who will assess the candidate's competency in French (oral and written).
