What you will do?
The Design Branch is seeking an individual to join the Structures Unit as a Structural Technologist working in Fredericton.

As a member of Structures Unit, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and reviewing engineering contract documents such as plans and technical specifications, quantities and estimates, and reviewing shop drawing submittals;
  • Preparing engineering documents and quantity calculations; reviewing engineering documents to ensure they meet departmental standards;
  • Providing technical support to Design/Project Engineers and Consultants; and data collection and processing;
  • Offering support in the process for the planning/design of new structures and providing technical engineering services for design of structure and hydraulics;
  • Performing and/or overseeing complex design work required for the timely completion of tender documents;
  • Providing technical support to other stakeholders involved in the design process (i.e. NB Power, Aliant, municipalities, other consultants, etc.), and
  • Assisting with the coordination of consultants engaged in projects.

Work environment:

  • Office location: 440 King Street, Fredericton with field work as required.
  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday
  • Occasional travel throughout the province.

Essential qualifications:

Engineering and Field Level VI:

  • A two (2) year post-secondary diploma in a Civil Engineering Technology program with a minimum of five (5) years of highway design experience;
  • Experience working in a computerized environment, and a strong knowledge and understanding of TAC, CAD (Microstation) and Road Design (INROADS) are essential to this position;
  • Must be a member, or be eligible for membership, in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists;
  • Valid class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.

In the event there are no candidates who demonstrate the essential qualifications required for the Engineering and Field VI, we may consider appointing at a lower classification.

Engineering and Field Level V:

  • A two (2) year post‑secondary diploma in a Civil Engineering Technology program with a minimum of four (4) years of highway design experience;
  • Experience working in a computerized environment, and a strong knowledge and understanding of TAC, CAD (Microstation) and Road Design (INROADS) are essential to this position;
  • Must be a member, or be eligible for membership, in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists;
  • Valid class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.

Engineering and Field Level IV:

  • A two (2) year post‑secondary diploma in a Civil Engineering Technology program with a minimum of Two (2) years of highway design experience;
  • Experience working in a computerized environment, and a strong knowledge and understanding of TAC, CAD (Microstation) and Road Design (INROADS) are essential to this position;
  • Must be a member, or be eligible for membership, in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists;
  • Valid class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate the following assets:

  • demonstrated experience in highway design, 3D modeling with Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software and/or a high level of computer literacy.

Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

SALARY:
Engineering and Field Level VI: $1,960.00 to $2,465.00 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week

Engineering and Field Level V: $1,785.00 to $2,244.00 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week

Engineering and Field Level IV: $1,625.00 to $2,039.00 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week
