Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this position performs a generalist role as an advisor to management and employees to address all aspects of issues that may arise in a unionized environment. Responsibilities of this position include the interpretation and administration of the teachers, student assistants and support staff collective agreements; providing advice and guidance on human resource policies and programs; recruitment and selection; employee relations, coaching and attendance management, compensation, classification, and professional development; and participating in policy and program development. The Human Resources Manager will take a proactive approach to problem solving by identifying issues, seeking potential solutions, developing strategies to address specific issues. This position will also perform other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate must have strong communication, analytical, organizational, advisory and time-management skills. They must be able to work independently, possess superior conflict resolution skills, be able to work under pressure to meet various deadlines, and have the ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge and experience in the management of human resources functions, services, programs, and best practices. These qualifications would normally be acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce or equivalent with a concentration in human resources/labor relations. Recent and relevant experience in the human resource management and labor relations in a unionized environment would be an asset. Equivalencies and relevant experience will be considered.
