A Business Intelligence (BI) Architect is required to support the definition of the technical, data and functional architecture. This architecture must initially support a scope-limited 'minimum viable product' (MVP), and effectively scale to meet a wide array of future needs. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Data Strategist to identify and elaborate the overall architecture.

Main tasks for the BI Architect include:

· Developing architecture documentation, leveraging frameworks/templates based on the company's standards, and/or provided by the Senior Data Strategist.

· Collaborating on the development of a detailed schedule/plan for architecture activities.

· Scheduling, scribing and documenting architecture-related interviews and working sessions.

· Performing external architecture-related research as requested by the Senior Data Strategist.

· Collaborating with the Senior Data Strategist and the Architecture Advisory Group to develop criteria, evaluate and recommend an appropriate technical architecture/platform and subsequently document the platform configuration.

· Collaborating with the Senior Data Strategist and the Architecture Advisory Group to develop an appropriate data architecture (how data in the environment will be modeled, managed and protected) that will meet short term MVP requirements and scale to meet an array of future needs.

· Collaborating with the Senior Data Strategist and the Architecture Advisory Group to develop an appropriate functional architecture (tools and applications and how they integrate) that will meet short term MVP requirements and scale to meet an array of future needs.

· Privacy of personal information and security are of paramount importance for the company. The BI Architect will therefore collaborate with other team members including the Senior Privacy and Security Advisor and key project stakeholders to ensure 'privacy by design' through all relevant components of the architecture.

· Providing input (e.g. architecture diagrams, etc.) to the to the companies RFP Writer/Analyst, Senior Business Analyst(s) and project team members as they work to define RFP content.

· Working with the Senior Data Strategist to provide detailed information, expert advice, and recommendations on strategic direction to the project team members and oversight groups regarding the overall architectural environment.

· Providing written status reports which outline activities completed to date. Reports to include any outstanding issues/risks that may impact the achievement of objectives at the current time or in the immediate future.

· Facilitating access to all draft materials on request and ensure that adequate feedback is obtained from appropriate stakeholders prior to delivery of any final documents. Main deliverables/work products for this resource, under the direction of the Data Strategist, are focused in the following areas, recognizing that this may not represent a complete list of deliverables as this needs to be confirmed for the companies/Data Lake MVP:

a) Technical Architecture diagrams and supporting documentation

b) Data and Meta-Data Architecture diagrams and supporting documentation

c) Functional Architecture diagrams and supporting documentation

d) Architecture-related interviews and working sessions documentation

e) Research notes

f) Other deliverables as required.


The qualifications and work experience required for the BI Architect are as follows:

• A minimum five (5) years of recent experience (in last 5 years) in Information Technology (IT) with a focus on Business Intelligence / Data Analytics / "Big" Data related roles.

• Experience in the definition of technical, data and functional architecture in a Business Intelligence & Analytics context.

• Experience working with or on initiatives with multiple complex stakeholders.

• Experience working on a project with a high performing and energetic team.

• Experience with or knowledge of leading cloud-native services such as AWS, Google, or MS Azure considered an asset.

• Experience in the health sector or the Nova Scotia public sector considered an asset.

• Knowledge of security models, approaches for data encryption, etc. considered an asset.
