The New Brunswick Association for Community Living (NBACL) is leading the creation of opportunities for individuals with an intellectual or developmental disability and their families to live full and valued lives in all aspects of society and is looking for an enthusiastic, energetic individual committed to the vision, values, and philosophy of inclusion. The Social Inclusion Coordinator position is part of a Social Inclusion Program for persons with disabilities in New Brunswick. This position will be located in the Edmundston Regiona and the successful candidate work in the Moncton region as well as provide support across the Province as required. .

The Social Inclusion Coordinator will assist in the development of supported living arrangements including planning, implementation and monitoring of such arrangements. The coordinator will also assist individuals with an intellectual disability to develop opportunities for social inclusion within their communities, including the development of personal support networks.

Responsibilities
  • Assist individuals with an intellectual disability and their families plan for the development of supported living arrangements;
  • Assistance with identifying where and with whom the person wants to live and the supports that will be required to establish and maintain a supported living arrangement;
  • Assist with the identification and provision of adequate and affordable housing, including facilitating access to government housing programs if necessary;
  • Identify sustainability requirements and develop a plan for the supported living arrangements, community involvement and connections to community;
  • Provide information and education to the individual, their family and natural supports around the role and value of a personal support network.
  • Assist individuals and their families to identify their natural support members;
  • Assist individuals and their families to establish a network and to identify possible leading roles of network members;
  • Assistance with the identification and securing of non-human supports, including technologies and accommodations that allow people to live with more independence, or to have the ability to request support when it is required;
  • Assistance with the recruitment, screening, orientation, and training of support providers for individuals with an intellectual disability. This may include privately hired live in supports or roommates, etc.);
  • Oversee the training and orientation of staff in the Social Inclusion Program and;
  • Participate as required in on call emergency response.
Qualifications
  • Fluently Bilingual (French and English) is mandatory;
  • Post-secondary education in the social sciences or human services and/or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Lived experience is an asset;
  • Supervising or overseeing a team of staff members and/or volunteer groups is mandatory;
  • Experience working directly with individuals with a disability and their families is considered a strong asset.
  • The ability to travel and provide own transportation;
  • Strong computer skills and demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications;
  • Ability to work independently and work flexible hours including evenings or weekends as required.
