Member Services Specialist

The Construction Association of Nova Scotia (CANS) is an industry trade association representing the interests of contractors, suppliers, and service providers throughout Atlantic Canada and across the country. We represent 800 large and small companies that build, renovate, and restore non-residential buildings, roads, bridges, and other engineering projects.

CANS is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Member Services Specialist.

The Member Services Specialist is a high energy individual who can work in a fast‐paced, respectful and inclusive environment, has a very strong attention to detail and interpersonal communication skills. This position is tasked with the primary function of updating and maintaining information pertaining to construction project tender opportunities, while striving to provide outstanding customer experience.

Reporting to the Manager, Projects & Information Services, the position of Member Services Specialist is responsible for managing the presentation of construction project information on the member information system, as well as very detailed project document processing. This position is the primary point of contact in responding to membership and general information inquiries and providing support in the provision of member services. The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Commissioner of Oaths status through the Province of Nova Scotia.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collect construction project tender information through various public and private information sources.
  • Input specific construction project data to the CANSNet system (CANS member portal and project information hub).
  • Follow and update project information records including tender bid results, awards, and project news.
  • Respond to general organizational and project information inquiries from members and the general public by email, telephone or in person in the office reception area.
  • Act as a Commissioner of Oaths for membership on specific construction documents.
  • Process and fulfill construction document and printing orders.
  • Other assigned duties and special assignments.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • A clean criminal record check is mandatory.
  • Very strong attention to detail and attention to accurate data entry.
  • Strong computer skills; competent in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The ability to effectively understand and interpret potentially complex written materials including basic construction blueprints and project specifications.
  • Highly developed organizational and time‐management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of the general structure and organization of the non‐residential construction industry.
  • Demonstrated commitment to experiential, life-long learning and professional development.

Experience and Education:

  • Degree, certificate or diploma in Office Administration or other business-related studies, or equivalent level of experience.
  • Industrial, commercial, institutional construction industry experience considered an asset.
  • Experience in data-entry or document management role.
  • Experience in clerical and/or customer support role.
