Agricultural Insurance Agent

The Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries is seeking an individual to join the Industry Financial Programs Branch as an Agricultural Insurance Agent, in Fredericton.

Reporting to the Regional Agricultural Insurance Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible to provide sales and client services, compliance inspections, crop loss investigations, adjusting services and claim settlements. The successful candidate will be responsible for approaching farmers directly to purchase agricultural insurance and assist in entering their application; servicing clients through regular crop inspections; responding to farmers' inquiries about the terms and conditions of insurance; collecting information relating to losses of crop production; and referring farmers' inquiries during the settlement of their insurance claims to the Regional Coordinator. The incumbent will also respond to any other related duties required by the Branch or the Regional Coordinator for the proper service to its clientele.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's degree in Science or a related discipline with major course work in Agriculture, and a minimum of two (2) years of related work experience in crop production; OR a diploma from an Agricultural Technician Program with specialization in plant science, and a minimum of three (3) years of related work experience in crop production. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate experience working in the agriculture industry. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be prepared to: travel within the regional area as required; perform physically demanding tasks including climbing grain and potato storage facilities and lifting 20-kilogram packages. Possession of a class 5 driver licence as issued by the Province of New Brunswick is required.

SALARY: $42,016 to $58,630 per annum
