The Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries is seeking an individual to join the Commercial Fisheries Branch as a Commercial Fishery Project Officer, in Caraquet.

As a member of the Commercial Fisheries team and reporting to the Provincial Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing expertise and knowledge of the seafood harvesting sector and for supporting other departmental divisions. Responsibilities will include the following: representing the Department on various working groups and/or advisory committees associated with commercial fisheries management and strategic initiatives; providing recommendations on commercial fishery management measures impacting the New Brunswick commercial fishing industry; participating in the development and evaluation of projects that support the Fish and Seafood Framework; the delivery of specific projects and specific fishery development; understanding the impact of government regulation on the fisheries; developing and establishing positive relationships and network building within the Atlantic seafood industry and its stakeholder's; and collaborating with other federal and provincial governments to improve long-term fisheries management. Other related duties may be assigned as required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's degree in Science, Marine Science, Biology, or Fisheries; and a minimum of four (4) years of related work experience in the commercial fishery. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be prepared to travel throughout the Region as well as the Atlantic Provinces on occasion; possession of a valid Class 5 driver licence as issued by the Province of New Brunswick, or equivalent.

SALARY: $50,388 to $70,408 per annum
