The Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development is seeking an individual to join the Resource Development Branch as a Field Operations Officer, in Fredericton.

As a member of the Resource Development team and reporting to the Team Lead, Mining and Mineral Resources, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: carrying out field visits to ensure exploration and resource development operations in the minerals, petroleum and quarriable substances sectors are being conducted as authorized; ensuring regulatory compliance by monitoring activities, as well as ensuring operators submit data as required by legislation; assisting the Reclamation Engineer by reporting on project milestones preparatory to paying invoices; liaising with Finance and Treasury Board regarding the accuracy and timeliness of royalty payments by providing advice on field operations; and liaising with other government departments on issues regarding resource development field activities. The incumbent will also be responsible for compiling and maintaining up-to-date statistical tables and disseminating information to other branches and agencies, as well as responding to surveys and information requests from provincial and federal authorities. Other related duties may be assigned as required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation supplemented by completion of a related two-year technology program, or equivalent; a minimum of four (4) years of progressively more responsible related experience in an earth resources sector. Membership or eligibility for membership in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists is required. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

ASSET QUALIFICATION(S): Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate a minimum of five (5) years of progressively more responsible related experience in an earth resources sector. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

  • Systems (GIS), Microsoft Office, Access, and an advanced level of Excel;
  • Planning and organizing skills;
  • Written and spoken communication skills.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be prepared to: travel throughout the province to work sites; work extended hours when necessary; carry out physically demanding activities including walking on all types of terrain to exploration and production sites, including pits and quarries, petroleum leases and underground mines; work in extreme weather conditions; be exposed to dust and noise; wear all required protective equipment during field work situations; possess a valid class 5 driver licence as issued by the Province of New Brunswick, or equivalent.

SALARY: $46,410 to $58,344 per annum
