HEAD OF CHILDREN'S SERVICES
The Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour is seeking an individual to join the New Brunswick Public Library Service as Head of Children's Services at the Campbellton Centennial Library.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the children's services unit and overseeing services for children in the library region. This will include planning, promoting, delivering and evaluating library programs and services for children, including outreach initiatives and services for special needs populations; providing reader's advisory and complex level reference service through traditional and electronic resources; orienting and assisting patrons in information technology and information literacy; engaging in public, community and media relations; conducting research, writing reports and compiling statistics; developing, managing, and preserving the unit's collections and participating in the development of children's collections for the region; shelving of materials and shelf reading; participating in providing circulation services; and completing other duties as assigned. The Children's Librarian participates in provincial and regional initiatives and committees.
The successful candidate will supervise and evaluate permanent and casual staff as well as volunteers in the unit; schedule hours of work, participate in the hiring process, budget preparation and grant management; development and communication of operational plans, policies and procedures. He/she will develop and implement staff training in children's services.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in library and/or Information Studies from an American Library Association accredited program and two (2) years of relevant experience. Experience using e-mail, the Internet and MS-Word is necessary.
Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.

The following operational requirement(s) is also required: This position requires travel, as well as daytime, evening and weekend work based on schedules. This position will involve some lifting on occasion.
Prior to appointment, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a criminal record check for work with the vulnerable sector.

TECHNICAL COMPTENCIES: The successful candidate will possess the following technical competencies: Presentation Skills; Specialized Subject Matter Expertise and Knowledge (Strong knowledge of library automation, electronic reference tools, the principles of collection development and community relations); Written Communication.

Salary: $50,128 to $70,070 per annum.
