The Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development is seeking an individual to join the Forest Operations and Development Branch as a Resource Forester, in Fredericton.

As a member of the Forest Development team and reporting to the Section Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing and administering the Private Woodlot Silviculture Program. Responsibilities will include: tracking of Marketing Board treatment work submissions, coordinating Regional monitoring and overseeing of payments to the New Brunswick Federation of Woodlot Owners; providing training and technical support to the Department and Marketing Boards; researching and developing briefing notes and discussion documents pertaining to Private Woodlot Management and including recommendations for senior management; leading opportunities for continual improvement of the Private Woodlot Silviculture Program including program delivery and administration; supervising and establishing work plan priorities for full-time silviculture technical staff; assisting other section staff with programs, tasks or projects as required; drafting Memorandum to Executive Council and legislation changes associated with Private Land silviculture; and performing other duties as required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's degree in Forestry or Forest Engineering and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in forest resource management, including a minimum of two (2) years of experience in silviculture operations or forestry operations. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Forester in New Brunswick is also required.

  • Specialized subject matter expertise and knowledge in the field of forestry, including silviculture and forest management operations;
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and the department's policies and procedures;
  • Ability to use office technology, software and applications, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and ArcGIS software;
  • Planning and organizing skills;
  • Written communication.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be prepared to: travel occasionally within the Province as required; possess a valid class 5 driver licence as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.

SALARY: $ 56,524 to $78,962 per annum
