The Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries is seeking individuals to join the Sector Development - Aquaculture Branch as Biologists, in Shippagan and Bouctouche.

Reporting to the Aquaculture Manager, the successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring delivery of professional technical services to shellfish producers and other shellfish industry stakeholders. Responsibilities will include the following: offering scientific and technical recommendations to producers, industry, and other provincial and federal government departments; collaborating with other Biologists in the Aquaculture section to provide resources to producers and industry; evaluating and providing advice on commercial files, business plans, research protocols, site visits and policy reviews; assisting with creating, evaluating and writing research protocols, policies and procedures, in relation to shellfish development; and other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: A University degree in Biology or a related discipline and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience with the fisheries or aquaculture sector, including a minimum of two (2) years of experience working with the shellfish sector. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate a Master's in Biology or a related discipline. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate must be prepared to: operate small water craft; operate a truck with attached trailer and boat; work on a boat and be on the water for one or multiple days per week; work in a variety of weather conditions; perform physically demanding tasks including lifting objects weighing up to 20 kilograms; work with minimal supervision; work outside of the region as required to assist colleagues; work extended hours and weekends as required.

SALARY: $56,524 to $78,962 per annum
