Purpose

The Junior Marine Service Technician (Fire & Safety) supports the inspection, testing,
maintenance, and certification of fire detection, fire suppression, safety, and rescue systems
onboard vessels and within company service facilities. This role is designed for developing
technical skills under the guidance of senior technicians while maintaining a strong focus on
safety, regulatory compliance, and quality workmanship.


The Junior Marine Service Technician assists in delivering accurate inspections, clear
service reports, and compliant documentation, contributing to the safe operation of vessels
and the company's marine fire and safety services.


Interrelations


The Junior Marine Service Technician reports to the Safety Service Manager and/or Senior
Marine Service Technician and works closely with service coordinators, senior technicians,
vessel superintendents, officers, and crew.


Main Responsibilities


• Assist senior technicians with inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire detection, fire
suppression, safety, and rescue systems onboard vessels and in service facilities
• Support servicing of equipment including:
- Fixed and portable fire suppression systems
- Fire detection systems
- Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
- Emergency Escape Breathing Devices (EEBD)
- Portable and fixed gas detection instruments
- Associated hoses, piping, and safety equipment
• Learn and apply vessel-specific requirements based on classification society rules, flag
state regulations, SOLAS/IMO requirements, and manufacturer instructions
• Use hand and power tools safely and correctly under supervision
• Assist with preparation, cleaning, and maintenance of tools, testing equipment, and
workshop areas
• Provide labor and technical support to ensure timely completion of service activities
• Communicate observed deficiencies or irregularities to senior technicians or supervisors
• Represent the company professionally when working onboard vessels and at customer
facilities

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management


• Follow all company HSE policies, vessel Safety Management Systems (SMS), and site-
specific safety rules
• Participate in Job Safety Analyses (JSA) / Job Safety Work Assessments prior to
commencing work
• Work under the supervision of senior personnel and stop work if unsafe conditions are
identified
• Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
• Report hazards, near-misses, incidents, and unsafe acts in accordance with company
procedures
• Demonstrate a safety-first attitude and commitment to continuous learning
Certification, Reporting & Documentation
• Assist with preparation of inspection certificates, service reports, and supporting
documentation
• Accurately record inspection results, test data, and observations as directed by senior
technicians
• Support the compilation of summaries of findings, including deficiencies and
recommendations
• Maintain accurate service records to support audits, surveys, and regulatory inspections
Development & Training
• Participate in on-the-job training and mentorship programs
• Complete required internal and external training courses
• Work towards obtaining relevant OEM, industry, or maritime safety certifications
• Demonstrate progressive improvement in technical skills, safety awareness, and
independence


Qualifications & Requirements


Mandatory Requirements:
• Ability to travel on short notice
• Willingness to work overtime as required
• Valid Driver's License
• Good physical condition, including the ability to lift up to 70 lbs, climb steep stairs, work in
confined spaces, and stand for extended periods
• Ability to work, travel, and sleep onboard vessels
• Safety-conscious and service-oriented mindset
• Basic command of the English language (spoken and written)
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment
• Willingness to learn and take direction


Preferred / Asset Qualifications:

• Entry-level experience or training in fire protection, marine, mechanical, electrical, or
technical trades
• Technical school or vocational training (preferred)
• Basic safety training (confined space, working at heights, fire safety, etc.)
• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
