Position Summary
Reporting to the Director Interal Audit of Medavie Inc., the Team Leader, Internal Audit is responsible for leading an independent team of Internal Audit professionals dedicated to conducting operational, compliance and financial audits in addition to other risk-based consultative engagements aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of operations at both Medavie Blue Cross and Medavie Health Services. Your duties will include; conducting complex audit and consultative arrangements; assisting other auditors in the identification and assessment of corporate risks, the planning and performing audit engagements, evaluation of processes and controls, development of recommendations to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of operations, and preparation and presenting reports detailing audit observations and recommendations. As a shared service, the incumbent will also be responsible for assisting the Director, Internal Audit in developing and scheduling the annual audit plan.
Key Responsibilities
Planning, performing, and leading operational audits and other assurance and consulting engagement teams in a manner consistent with Internal Auditing professional practice standards;
Adivsing and helping Internal Auditors in the preparation of audit programs, working paper files and reports in support of the annual audit plan;
Assisting the Director, Interal Audit in the planning and development of the annual audit plans of Medavie Blue Cross and Medavie Health Services;
Co-ordinating audit fieldwork with operational managmenent to ensure timely delivery of the audit plan;
Building, developing and maintaining strong relationships with Audit colleagues and other senior managers, to encourage open dialogue and collaborative commitment to problem solving, continuous improvement, and corporate risk mitigation;
Summarizing Internal Audit findings, recommendations, and corrective actions in written reports and monitoring the status of those recommendations to ensure that management has implemented agreed upon corrective actions;
Participating in exit meetings with auditors and auditees as needed to communicate audit findings and coordinate management action plans in response to recommendations made; and,
Assisting in the preparation of quarterly and annual reporting to the Audit & Risk Management Committee of the Board of Directors as required.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge of audit principles, practices and methodologies acquired preferably through 3+ years of leadership experience in an internal and/or external audit or similar role;
Relevant post-secondary education is required;
CIA designation is required. Other professional designations (e.g. CPA, CISA, CFE, etc.) are considered an asset;
Assertive, with excellent initiative to lead and problem solve;
Ability to work well within a team and collaborate both internally and with external stakeholders and management;
Ability to articulate thoughts in a clear and concise manner (both verbal and written);
Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and tight deadlines;
Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies is an asset;
Demonstrated computer skills (including word processing, spreadsheets, flowcharts, etc.);
Financial Services experience would be an asset, preferably within the insurance and/or healthcare industry.

Independence, Autonomy & Ownership: Demonstrated aptitude to work autonomously, make decisions daily with little supervision, and assume ownership over work assigned.
Planning, Coordinating & Multi-Tasking: Exhibit an administrative aptitude toward planning, coordinating and leading multiple engagements at a time with little direction.
Communication, Relationship Building & Partnering: Excellent communication skills, including ability to write persuasively in a clear and concise manner, and to communicate effectively and build strong relationships with senior organizational staff and professionals.
