Job Description:

CTA is seeking a highly skilled full time or part time Senior Accountant/Controller to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with a proven track record of managing full accounting duties, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and supporting or leading general controller duties. This position requires a strategic mindset, the ability to handle day-to-day financial responsibilities independently, and a dedication to maintaining the financial health of the organization. The successful candidate will work closely with the principals and management of the firm and liaise with project managers and employees as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee all aspects of the accounting cycle, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and financial reporting, including monthly reconciliation.
  2. Maintain a payment schedule for accounts payable to vendors and ensure timely payment.
  3. Ensure that Consultants are compensated for their work when they are retained directly.
  4. Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and reports in compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  5. Manage cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  6. Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  8. Support or lead the preparation of annual budgets, audits, and tax filings.
  9. Provide leadership and mentorship to staff, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and professional development.
  10. Stay abreast of industry trends, regulations, and best practices to recommend and implement process improvements.
  11. Set up projects in Deltek and maintain budgets and backlogs throughout the life of the project.
  12. Prepare final invoice package containing draft and final invoices for all billable projects, including all applicable backup.
  13. Mail final invoices, file client invoice copies and backup documents in the billing folder.
  14. Assess and pursue opportunities for maximization of client billing; communicate with the parties involved as to your observations and actions taken.
  15. Research any unbilled issues to optimize the billing possibilities for the billing period.
  16. Maintain the billing folders for all projects, with all the appropriate documents; contracts, change orders and monthly invoices, in accordance with standard processes and procedures.
  17. Investigate project variances and submit variance reports to management.
  18. Work with the cash receipts team members to reconcile variances that occur in the application of cash.
  19. Work with accounts receivables team members regarding unpaid project billings.
  20. Write off any uncollectible receivables, labour or expenses, as directed by the appropriate person.
  21. Close out projects upon completion.
  22. Compile information for internal and external audits, as required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA certification required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Be proficient in the use of Deltek Ajera as well as other accounting industry applications and Microsoft Excel. Proficiency in accounting software and knowledge of Ajera, Deltek Vision and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in work output.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in the architectural or construction industry is a plus.
  • Diplomatic and tactful when handling confidential information.
  • Detail oriented and organized with service-oriented approach.
  • Accountable and honest, highly motivated.
  • Ability to work independently and think critically through tasks.
  • Strong communication skills.

Work Environment:

This position can be considered part time or full time and is currently remote, with the potential for future on-site or hybrid work arrangements in Vancouver.
