Our Next Junior Consultant (Mining Engineer/ Engineer-In-Training)....

We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Consultant (Mining Engineer/ Engineer-In-Training) to join our Operations team. This position will provide a working knowledge of consulting and mining (junior technical expertise) to support the delivery of Okane's leading Mine Closure consulting services through an integrated life of mine approach. This is a full time role, open to our Calgary or Saskatoon locations.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Prioritize safety and take action to ensure zero harm to all employees, clients, contractors, the business and the environment.
  • Complete background reviews in support of conceptual model development.
  • Develop and communicate detailed mine plans, material balances, equipment strategies, haulage simulations and schedules in support of life of mine closure plan options.
  • Utilize engineering software to create mine & tailings designs and maps.
  • Collaborate design work and project scopes with geotechnical, geoscience, hydrological, and geochemical teams to ensure optimized feasible mine closure plan.
  • Work with project teams performing trade-off and optimization studies including but not limited to mine access, equipment selection, haulage, and production plans.
  • Support the development of capital and operating cost estimate for the purpose of economic evaluation.
  • Prepare proficient technical documentation and reports in area of technical discipline.
  • Prepare or review detailed work scopes for proposals relating to technical discipline.
  • Interact competently with internal and external stakeholders of varying levels of expertise.
  • Foster and maintain client relationships.
  • Complete simulations of mine closure and risk assessment conditions for a given model domain development through robust conceptual analysis.
  • An understanding around mine planning operations and risks related to mine waste storage facilities and ability to apply big picture mine closure thinking to provide solutions.
  • Plan and complete field investigations such as material sampling programs and construction of QA/QC projects.

Job Requirements

  • If you are currently registered or eligible to register as an Engineer in Training and/or have experience on projects requiring mining or civil engineering skills, we want to hear from you.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining or Civil Engineering or similar.
  • Experience in an operating mine is considered an asset but is not required.
  • Experience with mine design and scheduling software applications (ie. Deswik CAD or Hexagon MinePlan) is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience with block model auditing/manipulation and pit shell optimisation is considered an asset.
  • Available to travel to site as required.
  • Strong critical thinking skills – able to analyze information and evaluate various issues / risks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively communicate with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to work to strict deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
