We are currently seeking one full-time contract Human Resources Assistant to join our busy People and Culture team as part of the Canada Summer Jobs program!

This role is a part of the Canada Summer Jobs initiative to support youth in obtaining quality temporary work experiences. As Human Resources Assistant you will report to the People and Culture Manager and assist with HR related projects and initiatives including projects for Health and Safety, Human Resources Information System (HRIS), Recruitment and Selection, and Employee Engagement. You'll perform a variety of important tasks that make each day new and exciting to support the employees at CMHA Peel Dufferin! You'll belong to a team that supports and respects each other as we work together to make a difference within our organization.

Status: 8 week contract (anticipated contract dates will fall between June 10, 2024 and August 30, 2024); 30 hours a week in a hybrid working model

Hourly Rate: $17.55

Location: This position is based out of our 601 - 7700 Hurontario Street, Brampton office. Although we operate within a hybrid workplace model, staff are required to have on-site and/or community presence as per program and client needs.

What You Will Do:

  • Update HRIS on an ongoing basis and run regular HR reports
  • Provide recruitment support in the recruitment process including posting jobs, review resumes, coordinating interviews and conducting reference checks
  • Provide administrative support for organizational projects and initiatives involving Human Resources
  • Organize and coordinate training and orientation for new hires
  • Participate in the Joint Health and Safety committee

What You Need to Join Our Team:

Participants of Canada Summer Job roles must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Must be able to work all 8 weeks consecutively

Additional Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or a graduate of a Post Secondary Human Resources program
  • Previous administrative experience, as well as experience working with Human Resources Information Systems would be an asset
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to approach, listen, build trust, and communicate across diverse cultures and intersectionality. Willingness to continually improve understanding around cultural competence.
  • Openness to operate from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and intersectional framework
  • Willingness to learn and apply practical understanding of different elements of diversity, such as gender identity/expression, race/cultural background, religion, sexual orientation, disability, immigration and precarious status, family status, etc.
  • Fluency in a second language, including ASL (American Sign Language) is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently in a multi-task environment and to prioritize tasks in a manner that meets staff needs and program objectives
  • Proof of administered full-series Health Canada approved COVID-19 vaccination prior to start date. If unable to be vaccinated for reasons relating to protected grounds under the Code, completed medical or religious exemption must be provided.
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) report
