There is one Part-Time contract Activities Assistant Summer Student position available starting on June 10, 2024, and ending on August 09, 2024. working 30 hours per week.

Your Role:

Responsible to the Manager of Wellness Services for the delivery of life enriching activities to promote quality of life for all residents. Supports or leads the facilitation of programming that meets the diverse needs of residents. Responsible for maintaining an environment which promotes the health and well-being of the residents. Maintains confidentiality of information related to residents and their families. Works intentionally from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive perspective to further create a sense of belonging at the Village.

Tasks:

Resident Service:

  1. In consultation with the Activities Coordinators, delivers daily, evening, and weekend events and activities.
  2. Supports team initiatives to bring awareness to diverse observances, celebrations, holidays, and days of significance; supports opportunities for resident education, such as through events, seminars, and special programming, and holds space to facilitate ongoing conversations, education, and learning.
  3. Executes a variety of activities to improve the quality of residents' life.
  4. Works with volunteers to provide individual and group activities and events.
  5. Reports health and wellness related issues to the Activities Coordinator or member of the nursing team and writes incident reports as required.
  6. Assists in planning monthly activities schedule and prepares for distribution for residents.
  7. Supports and enhances independence and self-confidence of residents by providing programs and activities that address loneliness and opportunities for friendship.
  8. Facilitates programs which are culturally diverse; Collaborates with Equity Leader and Wellness Team to implement programs which provide education to residents on various issues related to equity including Pride Month, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Black History Month and more.
  9. Communicates activities to residents, staff, and families to promote engagement.
  10. Assists residents to get to and from activity and recreation programs.
  11. Assists in the production of a variety of documents for distribution to residents e.g., monthly events list, information bulletins, event / activity posters, etc.
  12. Supports resident involvement in a variety of events.
  13. Maintains involvement and acts as a liaison with numerous resident-organized clubs, activities, and committees.
  14. Coordinates room and equipment bookings in the Events Management System.
  15. Assists and confirms the planning and implementation of resident and organizational/staff events with appropriate staff.
  16. Assists Coordinator in the planning and coordination of thematic and holidays events and decoration.
  17. Keeps relevant teams informed of any additions/changes to programs; including, on-going weekly activities.
  18. Instructs fitness classes or 1-1 fitness programs, as required.
  19. During outbreaks and when residents are in self-isolation, develops 1:1 programs and services to support resident wellbeing.
  20. Facilitates virtual visits between residents and families when required.

Administration:

  1. Assists in operating within set budget.
  2. Acts as an organizational representative on relevant community committees as assigned.
  3. Takes attendance at activities and inputs data into online activity portal.
  4. Contributes photos, articles, and other content for the Luther Village social media platforms.

Your Talents and Experience:

Minimum Grade 12 education. Formal education in recreation/re-motivation therapy from an accredited College or University is an asset. Certified fitness instructor an asset. Has experience working with seniors and a sound understanding and empathy for the needs of seniors and their families. Strong interpersonal skills, highly creative, works well under own initiative and displays sound judgment. Ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and empathetically with residents and staff. Adept at learning various computer applications. Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, problem solve creatively and work within a multi-disciplinary team environment. Passionate, aware, and willing to learn about antiracism, anti-oppression, and equity.

  • Rate of Pay: At Lutherwood all salaries are categorized under a series of "bands" determined during our job evaluation process. When determining rate of pay for external hires, a candidate's past related experience will be taken into consideration along with where others with similar experience currently fall within the band.
  • Note: most new team members will start between the starting salary and the mid-point of the range.
