Position Title: Office Assistant – Canada Summer Jobs

Location: Brandon, MB

Term: Full-time, Contract 8 weeks (35 hours per week)

Reports To: Manager, Vision Loss Rehabilitation

Salary: $16.50/ hour

Date: April 25, 2024

I. Scope and Summary of Primary Responsibilities

This funded position through the Canada Summer Jobs Program, will afford a student the opportunity to gain experience and learn practical skills associated with working in an organization that provides professional vision rehabilitation therapy.

VLRC is looking for an energetic dynamic individual who will assist and support the Regional Management Team, Vison Loss Rehabilitation Manitoba (VLRM) with administrative support in Manitoba for individuals of all ages living with vision loss.

To be eligible for the funding associated with this position, you must be:

•between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment

•a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Protection Act

•legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations. International students are not eligible.

II. Essential Functions

The position entails, but is not limited to the following general responsibilities:

•As directed by management, work with VLRC staff on research and administrative projects.

•Drives staff with vision loss, provides support, and orientation at their destination.

•General office and administrative duties.

•Scanning and inputting of client documentation into client database.

•Complete evaluation at the end of placement to provide feedback on experience and provide a detailed report on activities/projects completed.

•Other related duties as required.

Relationships:

•Student will be responsible for relationships with VLRC staff, clients, and volunteers.

III. Qualifications

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

· Minimum two years post-secondary education preferably in business or health sciences.

· Previous experience with individuals with vision loss preferred.

· Excellent computer skills.

· Excellent driving record, drivers abstract is required.

· Professional, articulate, confident presenter.

· Superior interpersonal skills, excellent public speaking and writing skills, and effective communicator among a diverse audience.

· Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and independently.

· Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills.

· Flexible schedule.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality.

· Criminal record check will be a condition of employment.

Work Environment:

· Student will receive VLRC orientation.

· Student will be trained in Sighted Guide.

· Student will receive overview of Health & Safety for VLRC and training, including COVID-19 protocols.

· Increased knowledge of issues relating to persons who are blind or partially sighted.
