Caritas School of Life strives to support individuals facing the challenges of addiction and mental health concurrent disorders through healing provided in a day and residential therapeutic community program. The role of a Manager is to work with staff, clients, and community partners to achieve safe, realistic and reasonable goals by supporting all individuals in fostering the tools to take on the challenges associated with addiction and mental health concurrent disorders. The Manager is expected to collaborate with the interagency team on a daily basis to help support the program while helping staff and clients in the bed-based treatment program and support out-patient programs.

Program Overview

The Manager, Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Services provides strategic leadership for, and the management of, bed-based addiction and mental health treatment services. The Manager is responsible for coordinating and providing operational oversight, develop and/or update program materials to ensure compliance with organizational funder-specific, and accreditation standards and requirements.

They will provide leadership in the development and implementation of best practice in clinical services along with clinical and administrative supervision for counselling staff, supporting their development to ensure effective therapeutic programming and intervention.

Other responsibilities include: overseeing hiring, training, performance management for the Counselling team, ensuring key program performance indicators and individual performance targets are achieved, establishing clinical directions and practices that meet the needs of a diverse community of clients who often experience marginalization and barriers to service including stigma and racism, supporting and employing anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and inclusive clinical practices.

The Manager will also identify and actively participate in existing and new partnership initiatives to enhance the program and promote its reach and sustainability, support program development and evaluation activities and implement new services and initiatives that build on and enhance the objectives of the program, lead the development and implementation of clinical training to support the growth and development of staff, as well as the strategic objectives of the Agency.

They will provide clinical consultation and support to the program staff, management team, and existing programs, supervise program staff, conduct annual performance appraisals, manage performance issues, support recruitment and retention of staff, deliver orientation and training for new staff, students, and volunteers.

They will also monitor staff performance targets and data quality by regularly reviewing documentation in client management systems, partake in team and management meetings for the purposes of ensuring coordinated and integrative programming, and resource sharing. They will become familiar with the organization's policies and procedures and site-specific emergency procedures along with preparing staff for Accreditation and ensuring compliance with standards of care.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Master of Social Work or post graduate degree in a related field
  • Member in good standing with a registered professional governing body such as Ontario College of Social Workers & Social Services Workers (RSW), or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (RP), or the equivalent as determined by the Executive Director
  • 5+ years of experience in the mental health and addictions sector
  • 2+ years of progressive management experience in health or social services

What Will Set You Apart:

  • Ability to support individuals who have complex mental health and/or addiction issues, history of trauma, violence/abuse, etc.
  • Understanding of mental health, addictions, health sector, and community resources, along with understanding and utilizing the techniques of the Therapeutic Community model in relation to addiction treatment.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting individuals with mental health and substance use issues from a recovery and harm reduction approach.
  • Knowledge of evidence informed practices, evidence-based treatment models, best practice approaches, Mental Health Act, related legislation, Mental Health recovery, anti-oppressive, trauma-informed and harm reduction principles.
  • Experience providing therapeutic interventions, such as Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Anti-Oppressive Practice (AOP) and Anti-Black Racism (ABR).
  • Knowledge and understanding of social determinants of health, and awareness of systemic barriers to service.
  • Experience in program development and evaluation.
  • Ability to foster and maintain partnerships.
  • Strong organizational, leadership and /or group clinical supervision and strong clinical supervision skills.
  • Familiarity with funding, budgets, financial management and ability to liaise with funders and community partners.
  • Strong conflict resolution, negotiation, and crisis prevention/intervention skills.
  • Sensitivity to, and ability to work with, a diverse staff and client group while being an effective communicator.
  • Multi-tasking, effectively manage competing priorities, and strong time management skills.
  • Ability to exercise excellent judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity to handing situations and needs.
  • Computer proficiency and familiarity client data management systems, such as TREAT.
  • G Class Driver's License and a personal vehicle with appropriate insurance to travel to other sites
  • Minimum of 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccination series officially approved by Health Canada.

This position requires the Manager to work onsite and have flexibility for occasional weekends/evenings.
