We are seeking a Family Friend Program Facilitator to assist our Family Friend Program Coordinator with the delivery of our mentorship program that matches volunteers with isolated single mothers in need of social and community support. The ideal candidate will be passionate about community service and have experience working with culturally diverse populations.

Hours of Work: 20 hours per week (Typical work week is Monday – Friday)

Reporting Structure:

Reports directly to the Family Friend Program Coordinator

Prime Functions:

Participant Supports

  • Provides Participant supports through regular contact and organized events
  • Ensures that families are supported with accessing basic needs, such as food supports, and life and baby essentials
  • Delivers Participant resources and materials when transportation is a barrier for the family
  • Offers other options and referrals if the family is not accepted into the Program or is transitioning out of the program

Volunteer Supports

  • Assists with revising and updating volunteer training materials when required
  • Assists with organization and facilitation of volunteer training and orientation to services
  • Provides support to the volunteers through scheduled meetings, ongoing training and events

Community Knowledge & Engagement

  • Develops and maintains collaborative community relationships with services and agencies
  • Builds program awareness through networking, marketing and attending community forums and events that facilitate opportunities for Volunteer recruitment and community referrals
  • Social Media – builds community relationships, and Volunteer and Participant connections through social media as opportunity presents

Administration & Project Coordination

  • Assists with planning and organizing social events for Volunteers and families with the purpose of building community connections and to provide training and education
  • Assists staff with coordinating and delivering the Holiday Sponsor A Family Program
  • Assists with maintaining Participant and Volunteer files and records, ensuring that all required documentation is on file and is current
  • Assists with preparing reports and correspondence on a scheduled or required basis
  • Professional development – attends relevant workshops and training as opportunities present
  • Attends agency staff meetings and Family Services Team meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field preferred or equivalent experience
  • Experience and knowledge with children and single mothers; preference to experience with culturally diverse populations
  • Experience working with local relevant community agencies
  • Ability to network in order to build community relationships
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with families, volunteers, colleagues and other community professionals
  • Personally warm, genuine, compassionate, encouraging, hopeful, non-judgmental, flexible, respectful of Participant hopes and desires
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills; takes initiative for own learning
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent computer skills – Microsoft Office and good knowledge of social media platforms etc.
  • Able to work evenings and/or weekends as required to attend meetings and events
  • Possession of a valid British Columbia driver's license and a Vehicle to use for travel

Temporary Leave Coverage:

This position is temporary and will cover until April 12, 2025
