Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Director, Power, the Estimator - Power is responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings, ensuring that we know everything required to successfully bid and win the project. The Estimator - Power must aggressively follow-up with subcontractors and vendors to ensure that bids are received. The Estimator also assists the Project Management teams in project handoff and startup. Critical for success are the ability to take direction, work independently, manage time effectively, and demonstrate an acute attention to detail.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers. Follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Provide support to the Senior Project Manager during tendering phase of all projects.
  • Assemble accurate, timely and well organized estimates and new project set-up documents, including bids, construction management, design builds, cost estimates and control budgets.
  • Analyze drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate tender process and maintain a good relationship with clients, subcontractors, consultants, vendors, end users and suppliers.
  • Create and issue quotes/proposal submission documents.
  • Review bid requirements for projects, prepare and attend site walkthroughs and project site meetings, review and confirm geotechnical conditions, draft risk matrix and prepare take-offs.
  • Assist in creating preliminary budget for all successful tender projects, and change order pricing.
  • Assist with the overall management of mechanical contracting projects from pre-construction phase until completion.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Minimum of 5 years experience estimating overhead or underground power transmission & distribution projects across Canada.
  • A Post-secondary degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business, or a Journeyman Trade Certification in combination with experience in a related field is an asset.
  • Experience and highly skilled in negotiating
  • Must possess a valid driver's license for the type(s) of vehicles which may be driven and an acceptable driving record as determined by the DOT Operations Director and Legal Department.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, MS Project and Adobe. Estimating proficiency preferred using HCSS Estimating Software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experienced in reading plans and specifications
