Salary:

Reporting into the VP, Development, the Senior Manager, Government and Foundation Partnerships is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to identify, cultivate, and steward government and foundations for the purpose of developing mutually beneficial partnerships and increasing Jack.org's revenue.

With a specific focus on new revenue generation and partnership/pipeline development, the Senior Manager is responsible for leading a target revenue goal of an estimated $3M+ annually with a personal revenue target of an estimated $1.5M. This position is responsible for meeting fundraising targets and performance metrics within their portfolio and acts as the primary link between the Government and Foundation, Programs, Marketing teams, and the broader organization.

Job Responsibilities Include:

New & Existing Business Development: (50%)

  • Lead the strategy development and tactics necessary for building a successful Government and Foundation business development plan including strategies to generate revenue through grants, contributions agreements, and other institutional funding mechanisms.
  • Leads applications for government grants at all levels of government for Jack.org programmes and projects by compiling required materials, writing proposals including budgets, meeting guidelines, grant practices and deadlines.
  • Writes persuasive and substantive grant proposals that convey the quality and potential impact of the project being submitted for consideration and coordinates and edits additional staff contributions.
  • Determines feasibility, through research, of securing funding through government grant programs and works with appropriate individuals to expedite applications.
  • Lead pipeline development including identification, cultivation and stewardship of new and existing Government and Foundation funding opportunities in partnership with the VP, Development.
  • Initiate and secure Government and Foundation contributions focusing on high-value, multi-year partnerships with a minimum annual value of $100,000 annually.
  • Lead the implementation of Jack.org's government relations funding strategy in alignment with Jack.org's broader organizational strategy. Strategic work is done in close collaboration with the VP, Development, Senior Leadership, Programs and Communications staff.
  • Review and set the strategic direction for funding requests, proposals, and grant applications based on funder preferences, capacity, and priorities. Identify and clarify opportunities and needs, reviewing guidelines, and attending strategy meetings.
  • Prepare high-quality funding submissions (proposals, LOIs, reports) by determining concepts, establishing priorities and target dates, gathering and formatting information, writing drafts, and obtaining approvals.
  • Serve as final reviewer for all written submissions (proposals, LOIs, reports, emails) to government and foundation partners.
  • Network with Jack.org stakeholders (Board Members, major event participants, etc.) to uncover opportunities to connect with potential Government and Foundation partners

Donor Relations & Stewardship (30%)

  • Serving as a relationship manager for a portfolio of 50+ Government and Foundation partners and prospects
  • Ensure regular, high quality and engaging communications with Government and Foundation partners about the impact of their contributions
  • Ensure partners are properly recognized and acknowledged, and ensure all deliverables and reporting deadlines are met.
  • Secure one-on-one in-person donor meetings to establish or strengthen donor commitments to long-term support.
  • Represent Jack.org at meetings and events through public speaking, presentations and where appropriate public relations activities.
  • Execute gift agreements with all funding partners.

People Management (10%)

  • Develop effective, motivated team to achieve common goals with clearly defined accountabilities, which are aligned with the overall strategy.
  • Recruit, retain and develop an experienced team to achieve common team goals.
  • Conduct goal setting, coaching and counseling via mentoring, planning as well as performance reviews for direct reports as established by organization processes.
  • Encourage, coach and foster opportunities for development and personal growth.

Administration (10%)

  • Effectively manage budgets, financial resources, and monitor spend and ROI for Government and Foundation revenue development activities to ensure targets are met.
  • Lead the annual budget and planning process for the Government and Foundations.
  • Support the development and execution of organizational priority campaigns and initiatives.
  • Prepare, monitor and report on the Government and Foundation annual plan, revenue and KPI results to the VP, Development.
  • Proactively flag progress deviations towards annual plan or revenue accountability.
  • Develop and upkeep Government and Foundation data tracking, and other record-keeping for the Government and Foundation portfolio in CRM.

Desired Skills, Competencies

  • Five (5)+ years of progressive revenue development experience in foundation giving, government relations, corporate partnerships, major gifts and/or NFP fundraising and a proven track record of closing gifts at the $50K + level.
  • Three (3)+ years experience managing and leading teams.
  • A University degree, college diploma or equivalent years' work experience in fundraising, account management, government relations or other relevant disciplines.
  • Emotional intelligence, including the ability to read people and situations, as well as high levels of self-awareness and compassion.
  • Experience and expertise in writing and editing proposals that are both logical and engaging.
  • Excellent natural relationship building/management skills both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated experience in independent prospect pipeline development.
  • The ability to work independently in a hybrid environment while at the same time ensuring collaboration and teamwork.
  • Entrepreneurial minded with the ability to navigate complex situations
  • Superior verbal and written communications skills, including public speaking.
  • Experience with Salesforce or relational databases and donor database report tracking to ensure appropriate prospect/donor documentation.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, G-Suite)
