Primary Purpose of Position

Sinopec Canada is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Facilities Engineer to join our team. As a Senior Facilities Engineer, you will play a key role in overseeing the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of our oil and gas facilities. You will work with a team of engineers and cross-functional teams to ensure the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and environmental compliance are met.

This position is based in Sinopec Canada's Calgary, Alberta head office, on a hybrid office schedule, with the option to work from home on Monday and Friday.

Roles and Responsibilities are as follows but are not limited to:

  • Lead and manage the design, construction, and commissioning of oil and gas facilities, including processing plants, pipelines, and well pads including budgeting, scheduling, design, procurement, construction management, commissioning support, cost management, progress reporting, and lookbacks.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on facility engineering issues, troubleshooting complex problems, and recommending innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including asset team, production engineering, operations, maintenance, HSE department, to achieve operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to assess facility condition, identify areas for improvement, and ensure adherence to company policies and industry regulations.
  • Lead and mentor more junior engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning, development, and teamwork.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes, and incorporate them into facility engineering practices as appropriate.
  • Participate in risk assessments, hazard analyses, and incident investigations, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Champion safety initiatives and promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
  • Work with external Facility Engineering (EPCM) firms to scope, design, budget and monitor projects.
  • Collaborate closely with Sinopec Supply Chain Management team and EPCM's to select, tender and award equipment and services.

Position Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Proven track record of leading successful facility engineering projects from concept through to completion, including design, construction, and operations.
  • Strong technical proficiency in facility design, process engineering, equipment selection, and reliability engineering.
  • Solid understanding of industry codes, standards, and regulations, such as API, ASME, CSA, and provincial AER regulatory requirements in Alberta.
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills, capable of managing multiple projects concurrently and delivering results within tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to travel to project sites and work occasional overtime as required.
  • Display a high-level of integrity in all actions, complying with and promoting the company's core values, a respectful work environment, and aligning with the code of business conduct.
  • Experience with Pipesim, Siteview, and Accumap are an asset.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a facility engineering role with 15+ years in the oil and gas industry, with a focus on upstream operations.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) and APEGA member in good standing.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
