Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Data Protection & Privacy Consultant is responsible for helping clients gain insights into their privacy programs and capabilities to maintain compliance to local and global privacy regulations. Assess privacy programs and strategies, design solutions to remediate gaps or enhance maturity of specific privacy capabilities, improve measurements and monitoring, and develop sustainable processes to enable our clients to achieve business goals and mitigate their risks. In addition, as a certified partner of Vanta, the Data Protection & Privacy Consultant will leverage the Vanta platform to accelerate the client's compliance journey as a part of the privacy program. The ideal candidate will blend deep security experience with client soft skills, communication, planning, and an ability to drive change.

Skills And Abilities

Your Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree or above in Information Systems, Computer Science, Electronics and Communications, Information Security, Data, Business Ethics, Privacy Law or related disciplines.
  • Knowledge and 2 to 3 years of hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Assessing client risk and compliance against privacy regulations.
    • Designing or operationalizing functional privacy within or on behalf of a business.
    • Providing guidance on selection of privacy enhancing technology (PET).
  • Experience with Record of Processing Activities (RoPA) or Data Privacy Impact Assessments (DPIA)
  • In-depth knowledge of data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, USDP, PIPEDA) and privacy frameworks (e.g., NIST Privacy Framework, ISO/IEC 27701).
  • Familiarity with Data Security Solution tools, which includes tokenization, database activity monitoring, file monitoring, encryption such as Voltage, SecuPi, etc
  • Experience with Compliance Management Tools, e.g OneTrust, Vanta, etc.
  • Strong consulting and client-facing skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Practical experience with conducting risk assessments and testing of data protection and privacy controls
  • Excellent analytical skills and knowledge of data analytics methods
  • Ideally possess one of the following certifications: CIPP (Canada), CIPM or CIPT.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience on writing reports on findings and analysis of privacy issues.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in practicing privacy law is an asset.
  • Prior experience in information security is an asset.
  • Holding these certifications are preferred by not required:
    • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP)
    • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Operational understanding of networks, cloud systems, software development and other core security elements
  • Knowledge of security best practices across people, process, and technology
  • Experience in executing multi-stage projects over an extended period of time
  • Experience with technology firms, such as SaaS B2B firms, Health Tech, FinTech and related sectors
