SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

The Senior Accountant oversees a range of financial activities, from monthly revenue recognition calculations and journal entry reviews to intercompany cost reconciliation across regions. They collaborate closely with project managers and accounting teams to ensure accurate recording of costs and revenues, contribute to financial statement preparation, and play an active role in budgeting and forecasting processes. Additionally, they handle various ad hoc responsibilities as needed and report directly to the Divisional Controller.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Creates monthly calculations for recognizing revenue based on percentage of completion for contracts in North America, along with preparing workpapers, summaries, and IFRS 15 checklists.
  • A lead in liaising with project managers on a monthly basis to ascertain accruals and predicted costs, essential for implementing percentage-of-completion revenue recognition calculations for construction projects.
  • Reviews and authorizes journal entries concerning accounts payable and accounts receivable for percentage of completion projects.
  • Monthly reconciliation of the general ledger, contract assets and liabilities, and deferred and accrued expenses linked to percentage of completion contracts.
  • Leads in intercompany reconciliation of costs across regions within percentage of completion projects.
  • Contributes to monthly accounting tasks for ad hoc engineering services provided to customers in the Region.
  • Participates in the monthly close of R&D accounting for percentage of completion projects in the Region.
  • Month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close procedures and fulfills audit requirements.
  • Prepare quarterly workpapers required by Corporate for public reporting in Canada.

WHAT YOU BRING:

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or related field
  • 3-5 years of public accounting experience in audit
  • Must be currently authorized to work in Canada
  • Experience with US GAAP & IFRS Application of new accounting standards preferred (e.g., revenue recognition, leases)
  • Experience in the construction and/or renewable energy industries preferred
  • CPA/CPA-candidate preferred

  • Strong communication (oral and written), presentation and coaching skills

  • Proven ability to work independently and as a team, join data from various sources and develop creative and innovative solutions within an entrepreneurial environment
  • Advanced skills in Excel. Strongly proficient skills in Word, PowerPoint; Experience with Microsoft D365 a plus
