The Water Treatment Process Engineer opportunity is for an engineer/technologist to join our team in Burlington, Ontario. The Proces Engineer would be responsible for designing, planning, and implementing projects related to water and wastewater treatment, chemical dosing systems. They work in collaboration with a team of engineers and technicians to ensure the efficient and effective operation of water and wastewater treatment facilities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receives new technical inquiries, request of proposals (RFPs), quote requests on daily basis directly from different clients and leading Project Managers.
  • Suggests process solutions which are in the best interest of the clients.
  • Develop RO projections using RO design software.
  • Analyse different water/wastewater chemistries to propose the best possible water treatment solution for the existing scenario.
  • Provide telephone support/assistance to the customers for onsite system issues.
  • Develop preliminary conceptual to detailed process design of industrial and municipal water and wastewater treatment systems.
  • Design processes for sequencing batch reactors (SBRs), UF, RO, NF and membrane bioreactors(MBRs).
  • Develop cost estimation, technical specifications, vendor and contractor prequalification, procurement/tender support and contract administration.
  • Conduct process evaluation, process optimization, general hydraulics calculations and equipment sizing and selection.
  • Develop process schematics, PFDs and P&IDs to ensure proper functionality and alignment with project requirements.
  • Develop standards product designs, documentation, and specification sheets.
  • Write technical proposals by using fundamental chemical engineering knowledge for the new projects which are not as per company's standard product lines.
  • Write design briefs, control narratives and user operation and maintenance manuals for water and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Size and select equipment.
  • Develop and perform quality control and commissioning checklists and procedures for water and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Discuss equipment design and operation with suppliers, consultants, customers, and operators.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering with 5-7 years of experience in water and wastewater engineering field (or related engineering diploma with more experience)
  • Strong knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes, including physical, chemical, and biological treatment methods.
  • Proficiency in using engineering software and tools, such as AutoCAD, hydraulic modelling software, and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex engineering issues.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and engage with clients and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and permit requirements in relation to water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in design calculations, cost estimates, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to maintain project documentation and records systematically.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of water and wastewater engineering.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and permit requirements related to water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and participate in site inspections and meetings as required.
  • Commitment to health and safety practices in the workplace.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office applications – Word, Access, and Excel.
