Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • In coordination with other crew members the Construction Leader/Supervisor is accountable for assigning work, supervising crews, coordinating daily activities, follows job procedures and regulations to perform assigned construction tasks and perform any one or more of the following tasks:
    • Carry out all directives of site management
    • Read and sign all log books daily
    • Ensure all employees have the knowledge to work safely and efficiently by giving all employees job specific instructions on a daily basis and monitor progress
    • Ensure that all employees are properly trained to operate the equipment they will be using
    • Make arrangements with Safety Coordinator for any training an employee may require
    • Assist in work scheduling and planning. Be aware of any changes of conditions in the workplace
    • Ensure all equipment is in good repair, have broken equipment scheduled for repair and make equipment available to mechanics when it is scheduled for preventative maintenance
    • Fill out all progress reports or accident/incident reports that happen during shift
    • Ensure employee safety through compliance with all safety and mine regulations, as well as company policy and regulations
    • Conduct daily pre-shift meetings to ensure employees are informed of safety concerns
    • Inspect existing underground headings to ensure the workplace is safe and assigned construction tasks can be executed safely and to design specifications
    • Assign job tasks to crew members and monitor progress throughout the shift
    • Keep track of all advances and communicate to site management and cross shifts footages and volumes on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
    • Use scaling bars, pneumatic hand-held drills, cutting and welding equipment, rubber tire underground mobile equipment such as mechanized bolters, scissor trucks, LHD units, shotcrete sprayers and other support vehicles
    • Installations of vent tubing (air, water and pumping lines, other construction work and maintenance jobs as required
    • Complete reports as required
    • Other duties as may be assigned


General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure full understanding and compliance with company policies and work in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other local regulatory requirements
  • Have the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
  • Fully supports and actively participates in the team safety program based on culture and innovation
  • Ensure that any equipment deemed damaged or unsafe by virtue of a defect, or a machine of which any protection system is inoperative, is not used and communicated to the supervisor
  • Work closely with other crew members to create and maintain a synergy required to accomplish the shift line-up in the cycle
  • Ensure applicable procedures and work standards for all tasks are understood, adhered to and complied at all times for all such work
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the workplace
  • Utilize all safety systems as specified within the site safety management system

Pre-Employment Qualifications:

  • Pre-employment drug, alcohol and medical testing
  • Criminal Record Check (if applicable)
  • Full Supervisory Common Core
  • Full Basic Underground Common Core
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in a construction leader or supervisory position
  • CWB certified considered an asset
